I've got a little PTI basher/ rock racer & I'm running a 24-turn motor 18pinion/87spur w/rebel2 & 3-cell,10 or 12c lipos...The li-pos get pretty hot, and one by one have become useless.. Do I need to go up in amp rating (like 20 or 25c)?.... Li-po's are TOO EXPENSIVE (and dangerous!) for me to trial-and-error.. If 10c is okay, maybe I'm just not buying from a good source... Any feedback?

For one you have no lipo cutoff, a 11.1 volt lipo needs to be shut down when it reaches 9 volts.

I'm using a 3-cell monitor that flashes & beeps as you approach 9v... I've been careful not to over-discharge and I check the packs w/ a multi-meter often...

Your clearly over amping the packs. a 24T motor will peak over 80 amps easy. Heck I have had a 27T epic peak in that area. You basically have a buggy motor that needs either higher C rated smaller packs like something in a 30C to 35C range or a normal pack that would be used with that motor like a 20C 5000 or 6000 pack. Unfortunately you won't find any smaller higher c rated packs to do what you want. Even a smaller 2200 25C pack is only going to be able to do 55 amps. Jason

Thanx jason...so I'll need to go to a higher-turned motor.. Will a 40-turn draw less than 55amps?

That's the trouble if you take say a 35T or a 45T and gear them for speed your going to increase the amp draw where a larger pack will be needed. Maybe not as large as say what the 24T would need but you'd still need to be careful. In crawling situations I run a 45T on a 3S 1100. And many guys running bergs will use either a 3S 2000 2100 or our 25C 2200. But they are geared for crawling. It's tough to get a good rock racer set-up going with a small pack because in most cases you are in fact building a racing buggy that need a regular race pack. Jason

Yep, Jason is spot on. If you want to go fast, you have a use a battery with lots of power. Some new 40C cells just came out from TP, but you will probably pay a premium and experience very short runtimes. 40c, that is draining the pack in 1.5 minutes!
