Default Split pack 6,7,8 cells question.

Okay, i built a split pack, works great... its 6 cell. Now i was looking at some on the holmes hobbies site. He has 6,7,8 cells at 7.2,8.4,9.6 volts. I have an ax10 artr with a rooster esc and a 55t novak. Can i run 8.4 volts? or higher?

when i tested my 1800 mah nicd split pack fresh off the charger it said 8.4 volts but it a 6 cell. is that just the peak? some one help me out here.

thanks.

Notice much more power? more torque? better run time? whats the benefit of a 7 cell?

The 7 cell will give you an increase in wheel speed. Runtime will be unchanged.

It has a hair more wheel speed and torque than the 6 cell. I was running a 6 cell 3800mah pack that would last about 3 + hours. I am running the 2/3a 7 cell 1400 mah pack now and it last about 20 minutes.. I ordered another 7 cell elite 1500 mah pack from cheap battery packs.com. Heard they last a little longer.Click the image to open in full size.

Okay so not much sense spending the money for a 7 cell split, my 1800 mah 7.2v nicd split i made runs maybe 20 mins. the 3800mah 6 cell nimh shotgun runs longer than i want to drive, maybe 2 hours? I'll just make a split pack out of it and call it good. thanks guys.

how come more people don't make their own split packs? I made one for the ax and one for the mrc. seems pretty easy and cost effective.... or maybe my trucks will melt tommorow.

Wait, what exact battery do you run?
i might just NOT go to 8 cells and stay cheaper with the 6's.

The 2/3a cells are smaller. You can see them on the axle in picture. You can fit a 8 cell pack in a spot were you could barely fit a standard 6 cell pack. I run the intergy intellects 3800 mah in a split 6 cell pack and they last 2 .5 hours plus. My thunbs usally get tired of driving first. (Running a DX6I).

The 1800 NiCad Pry developed a memory. A good 1500 mah 2/3A pack should get you about 45 mins of runtime

that was the first charge and run for that 1800 nicd, weird. You see any problems with making split packs from the huge normal 7.2v packs?

i'm guessing by your name you know a thing or two about batteries.

Well the first cycle is never a good example. Plus the conditions have to be at their best. The problem with the SC cells is that they're so huge and bulky. You get great power from a 2/3A cell and lose alot of volume consumption.
