not sure as i have never experianced this, but sounds to me like a cell is venting or too much voltage pushing into the battery. what amp are you charging at?

Pack might be put together wrong on that side. I would look at the bars and check for correct +and - Connections. Put the meter on it take one of the wires of connecting the two and check volts on each side.

you probly charged it at the 6 amp top end and smoked your batter. that sucks. theirs a button on the front of you 959 that say's "ADJUST" plug the charger in but don't hook a battery to it and hit the "ADJUST" button and keep hitting the "ADJUST" buttom untill it say around 1.5 or 2 amps.

It is probably still ok but that will definately shorten the life of the pack. Just run it after it cools down and see how good or bad the pack is. 10V is normal after a charge on a 8cell pack. 8 cell x 1.2v = 9.6V remember a AA battery is 1.5V so 8 x 1.5 = 12V.

The pack will peak at 1.5v per cell. 3 amps will definately hurt the pack. No more than 2 amps on that pack. It should peak at 12 volts. If not after a few cycles, then there is a chance there is an bad cell.
