Hi

One bit of advice is to look at the front of the motor and see if it is flat. I have a motor which is not, and the fit to my Axial AX10 Scorpion motor plate is less than perfect due to this.

The crawlmasters have a lot of torque. The revolvers have almost the same, but they are easier to gear because they are smaller. Otherwise you will have to pick up a Novak or Tekin sensored system to get brushless that crawls well.

i run a turnigy outrunner brushless motor that works awesome everytime. its small and has tons of power. it seems like a good brushless motor. i have about 6 or 7 buddies that run the same one to.

i run the turnigy 860kv with a 3 cell lipo. it has plenty of wheel speed for me. i ran a 2 cell on it for a little while but the 3 cell helped it a ton

Ok! Looking more wheelspeed than 35 t lathe... love the low end but need more top (like brushed Graupner speed 600 ).

i am looking for same thing, only plan on trail riding and little bit of crawling, but want 15-20 mph.

Crawl Masters are great motors and all about torque. If you are after wheel speed, you need to answer a few questions. The Mamba Max is great and so is the 3S lipo. I would suggest a CC BEC just to keep the ESC cooler.

As for KV, 1000 is the lowest I would go, but I would really be looking for a 1250KV out runner and maybe even a little bigger.

What size rim and tire are you going to run? 1.9 or 2.2? The final height of the tire will play into wheel speed as well.

What transmission? Any R2 is tricky to gear for wheel speed. You would need a 22 tooth pinion to really get any good wheel speed. The higher you go in the gearing, the less smooth the start up power will be on the low end for crawling. An Axial transmission with 87spur and 22pinion is pretty good, but it's not super fast. I have that in a 1.9 scale rig with a Holmes 1000KV Crawl Master Sport. I wish it was faster. I am using a MM, CC BEC, and 3S lipo.

I have a BM9 in a R2 in a custom 1.9 Hilux with a MM, CC BEC, and 3S lipo and the pinion is a 18 tooth. It's not "fast" either. It does slow speed crawl better than the other 1.9 but it's not as fast either.

I love brushless outrunners for the strong drag brake and ease of maintenance, but they are definitely not for everybody. If you can get it tuned properly though, they are amazing. I am using Holmes 1000KV Crawl Masters in both mine and my sons 2.2 comp rigs. They are Axial transmissions that are geared with 96 tooth spurs and 18 tooth pinions. They are super smooth to run, especially for brushless. 3S lipos, MM's, and CC BEC's. Good luck in whatever you decide.

If you two are both looking for that kind of wheel speed, you need either Holmes Puller motors (which are brushed) or a quality 27 turn brushed motor. I suppose you could try a Holmes Hand wound 35 turn and volt way up for the desired wheel speed. I would also suggest an Axial transmission. You have more gearing options than a R2. 3S lipo would be OK but 4S lipo would be better. The puller is an awesome motor. Great slow speed control with instant wheel speed.

I went with a MM 5700kv and a 9T pinion. Very good speed and good trail motor...hindsite, I would of gone with the 4600kv..and the same 9t pinion.

I am all grins when I run my Mtroniks sensorless 600 size brushless.
It has torque, I added a few extra capacitors to the ESC and have not noticed any cogging, but it might have too much RPM.

That of course makes it way too much fun.
