Default Ofna servo savers?

I know people keep saying to ditch the servo savers and buy the high dollar servo, but i'm wondering if the Ofna HD servo saver would be what it takes to save that one lame plastic gear in my Hitec 645mg's???

The gear only strips under heavy impacts, falls, etc.... never has it stripped when bound up in the rocks crawling. This is why i'm thinking of the servo saver hoping it could absorb the occasional heavy impacts with out limiting steering power. ??? So what i was thinking was, if the Ofna saver is rated at 200+ oz/in and the Hitec 645mg is rated at 133 oz/in, it should allow normal steering action/response and possibly provide shock absorbtion when needed...?????? i don't know???

I all ready have 2 645mg's that i've rebuilt once each at $20 a pop, once more and i may as well have replaced the whole servo, so I'm trying to get a little more life out of them before having to replace both of them just yet..

those servo savers are just like every other servo saver..... they suck. while your wheels are bound up and your trying to turn the saver will not apply the full force to your steering. They will save your gears during a hard impact fall, but they will also take away from your steering when bound up. All the 645's I own (4) have metal gears in them, not plastic, maybe if your rebuilding yours with plastic gears that could be the prob?

X2 I do not have any plastic gears in any of my 645's either. The buy a high dollar servo does hold true. I have had a 5955 and fried it myself, so I picked up a JR8711. when it comes to electronics the more you spend, the better quality product you will get and the longer it will last (IF you treat it right).

This was the higher dollar metal geared servo at the time to my knowledge and availability locally in 2004, a lot has changed from the scratch built crawler days and way more info and product has been made available on the net since then.

My HS645mg has one plastic gear , 2 brass gear clusters, and 1 alum/steel final drive cluster "if thats what its called". Maybe they have changed their design since then. Bottom line is that an upgrade is due since the servo savers are not the answer. Thanks.

I run 645's on three different truck with out many problems. Granted they don't have the super torque ratings of some other servo's, but they do ok, I've only stripped the gears in two of them, and they were a few years old at the time.
