The night before our last scale comp I took my motor ( Integy v10 50t) apart and cleaned it. I may have not put the brushes back in the same way but that hasn't effected anythin in the past. Anyway the next day it worked fine running around before the comp, but as I turned it off i noticed a strong metallic ozone smell, as did others. I took it apart and everything looked fine. Put it back together and held it in my hand, and gave it some throttle. Sparks shot, and the top of the comm/brush surface started glowing immediately then it stinks. I lined up the can and end bell the same I thought. What am i missing? This motor is very unused and I had it cut and balanced at a shop a month ago. What did I eff up when putting it together? Sounds like the brushes were not put back exactly as they were. Run the motor in a bucket of water for a while to reseat the brushes. Afterward spray the motor out with motor cleaner and re-oil the bearings.

what and how did you clean it. either a chemical reaction with a solvent if any was used or more then likely if you cleaned the comm you got some crap in the groove between the poles. if the brushes were put in backwards then it could have chipped a piece of the now leading edge that was the trailing edge. seen it alot in the oval days with guys trying things with brush timing. also make sure the shunt isnt hanging on the hood causing the brush to be crooked and not fully contact the comm. good luck. |
