I am planning to buy the RC4WD Rock Rider crawler. I will be using 3s 2200 20c lipo batteries. I will be using My Futaba 7ch 2.4 giga hertz radio and R607FS receiver. I would like your recommendation on ESC, motor and servo, in brushed and brushless configuration? also the price points on both setups? I have no plans to compete. Thank you Kevin

you comping or having fun? the CC Mamba Max is a nice ESC at 120.00 lipo with built in cutoff for 2s and 3s. and nimh/cd compatible. cpu setup and programming. will run bl or brushed motors. the CC Sidewinder is also a decent unit, a a bit cheaper. as far as motor, would depend on what your looking for and what your doing.

if you don't need the stress, I'd go with brushless. b/c there is less maintenance to muck with. caveat being: higher initial cost. the CC ESC products can take up to a 3s lipo, and you can program it via your PC (Mamba MAX's come with the interface on the unit. Sidewinders - add 20-30 bucks for castle link). the only problem is the motors are not sensored, thus if your 4600 KV gets stuck in a jam, and you may end up with cripy fried ESC. lesson learned, try one of HH's lower KV motors instead of a high speed version. the Novak goat system is nice because it uses a sensored motor. problem is, it's only good up to 2S. but i've read that people are running them on 3S. fwiw, i only have CC stuff, i haven't actually tried a novak. some people like them, some dont. ymmv, good luck!
