Default Lead Acid Battery

For those of use that have been at this long enough to remember the nylint craze of a few years back, did anyone charge or try to charge the lead acid battery on a regular NiCd, NiMd, or Lipo charger? I dug mine back out of storage this weekend and was remembering how fun they were and somewhere I lost the charger for the huge battery pack.

What? People don't use Nylints anymore???
Sad thing is most guys on the board now probably dont even know what a Nylint is.:-(
Ok so your actual question: umm... Im not sure. There are however fancy chargers out there that can charge these batteries. I havent touched one in a few years so its kinda a distant memory. I remember blowing one up if that helps.

Are Nylints 12v, 5AH?

Simular to a small motorcycle battery. Chargers for motorcycles and such charge around 1A. Most Hobby Grade chargers also charge at 1A, but usually 7.2 or 8.4V only. Is your charger adjustable or senses for voltage or cells?

Seems like if you or a friend have a regular car battery charger, you could use it, but ONLY on Trickle Charge setting. Full charge would likely boil the thing.

Yea the battery is 12V 4.2AH. My charger has to have the amps set but it senses the capacity and cell count of the pack. I didnt know if the NiCd or NmHd charge would be the same as it uses or not. Im living in a dorm and didnt really want to risk it blowing up and I figured someone had tried it

All of the smaller lead acids, 12v's I've seen in scooters, motorcycles and lawn tractors all say 1 amp.

When you buy a starter box lead acid, the cheap chargers they often sell with them charge NI-CD and I never had issues charging my Lead Acids on it.

I have my nylint charger and battery to. I suppose the 12v charger won't charge a 7.2v NiMH battery without burning it up huh?

You want a charger that puts out 14v. A nicad/nimh charger will not terminate properly and can end up gassing the lead acid by pushing the voltage too high. You could use a 4 cell a123 charger, or a 12v lead acid charger basically.
