What is the difference between the modes?

If I buy one with a receiver, is there a better one to get vs. alternatives?

Mode 1 is right hand throttle and left hand elevator. Mode 2 is right hand elevator and left hand throttle. Most everyone would get mode 2 because the normal standard is using the throttle with your left hand.

This basically means that whichever stick the throttle is on will not return to center when you let off of it.

Basically doesn't matter at all since for crawling you're gonna most likely want to send it in to have the spring return throttle mod done to it so that both sticks return to center.
