Old Tekin rebel and scx10 trail rig

:?:I have an Old Tekin rebel esc and am almost done with my scx10 chassis. Im going for my first scaler and it will be a trail truck.
I am hoping for advise on the motor, With 7.2 v nimh for juice Im looking
for wheel speed a bit faster than walking. What is better 35 turn geared up or 27 turn geared down? 10 to 12 mph should be plenty.
And will I have reasonable low speed throttle control with the 27 turn option ? and or a geared up 35 turn ?
Long time club level racer,,Total Newb to scale trucks :XD

10-12 MPH with decent crawlability on 7.2v is a tall order indeed! I'd say give the 27t a try, you probably already have one lying around anyway. The 35t isn't likely to get you that kind of speed but you can try it. I'm currently running a 10t cobalt puller on 3s lipo geared 22/87 in mine and I get jogging speed out of it and it still has enough torque to snap axles on command. Either that or a sensored brushless system (the Tekin RS with a 17.5 or a 21.5 looks nice, though I've never used one) would probably be the very best bet in the long run.

You'll hit your target speed with the geared down 27t on 7.2v but with less run time than the 35t.

You would have to throw more volts at the 35t to get up in the 10mph range

Geared right it probably will. It won't have any torque geared like that, but it'll move right along. Make sure you get a sensored brushless system, the sensorless ones cog bad, you'll hate it. If you gear your sensored brushless system properly it'll have enough torque for comp duty. I've seen heavy TXT supers run off a goat without significant problems.

"thumbsup"OK an update The Old style Tekin Rebel worked fine after 6 years
in the garage in a Tamiya TL-01.
I used the Silver can Mabuchi 27turn from the same car and the stock
scx10 14 tooth pinion.
Top end was just above my brisk walk speed and since I know nothing of crawlers
I must say the low speed control was excellent,,to me.

Also got a Radioshack 3300nimh for 25 bucks (Part # 23-319) and with many full throttle
passes across the yard and some slow crawling I got tired Of not having my
truck body ready and shut it down at about 25 minutes.
Still need to switch to a Dean's connector I think.
Battery was still running strong! Batt and motor almost got warm lol
and this little chassis is super smooth.
I will try a 20 tooth pinion next,,,gotta finish the body first.

NOW I have a challenge for you guys,,,,
I want someone to convince me that its worth the 300 bucks or so to go Brushless
and Lipo. I have a Triton EQ charger cause all my old chargers are
for Nicad's.
AND should I try to revive the 6 year old panasonic Nimh 3000
or any of the matched race nicad pac's i have ??

Osco the Noob really digs the SCX10

the nice thing about crawlers is you don't need top of the line batteries to get long run times, and with all the lipo and other new stuff you can buy old school nimh packs for pretty cheap. I found it easier just to replace my old packs with better ones for less $.
