Hi Tech 645 seems to be what most everyone is using as a cheaper servo. I run all TG digital servos as far as steering, but if that wasn't an option I would still save up to try to get a 5645 instead of the 645, or try to find somewhere to get a Tower Pro MG995.

I just picked up a PPP digital servo to switch from my HS-645MG (that must be old? because it does not have a metal gear showing - have not taken it apart though).

The PPP is rated at 202oz/in @ 6v and was a big improvement, especially for $29.

I ordered a few of the Tower Pro MG995 yesterday from bestofferbuy.com for 10.70 each with free shipping. Doesn't get much cheaper than that.

You might try to get a few Tower Pro MG995's.

They are definitely inexpensive and have quite a bit of torque. Type in MG995 in the search window on ebay. Sometimes on ebay you can get them for less than $10.70 a piece. Last I looked a couple weeks ago you could get 4 for around $36 with free shipping.

X2 on the 645's. I used to run one. They work great for $30. But theres no comparison at all to the 250oz and up servos. However price goes up too.

With the MG995s be carfull with the ears on them, their quite easy to snap off.

just bought a 645, seems like a good servo for 39.99 at my lhs. JR also makes one for the same price with 40 oz more torque.
