| Antennas? How come no one ever mentions what do to with these?
I've been browsing around and am having a very hard time trying to figure out what you guys do with your antennas in your truck. I've been running an internal one coiled around body posts, but its genuinely a nuisance and I plan to fix that tonight. You guys all run internals? If so, how? I'm gonna go the classis aerial unless someone points a reason why not to. Link me to a topic if this is overlyredundent. I'll shut up now. Torque |

I take a piece of lexan and puch holes (opposite from each other) in it so you can lace it through holes in the lexan. Then just end the end and double stick it to anything. Range is not really a concern while crawling.

well some people hide them on scle rigs cause they dont have huge antennas sticking out of them in random places. then theres some that dont use them like me cause most of the time with crawlers youre right next to the truck to get a better veiw.

put a big zip tie around something so the zip tie tail sticks up vertically. wrap the antenna tightly around that. cut the zip tie with about 1/4 inch left after the wire has stopped wrapping. drill a tiny hole (smaller than the wire diameter) and cut a vertical slit down the zip tie to the hole. spread it apart and wedge the very end of the wire in this little slit to hold it in place. compact, clean, antenna. you don't need ot stretched out straight, its not going to be 500 feet down the road so you don't need that much reception. you can kinda see it here... some other pics are HERE |

Thanks, I was just looking for a cool little tip like that. I should stress(from my 1/28th knowledge) if anyone decides to coil it, dont overlap the wire, it will hurt your range drastically. |

if you look at the back of the chair, the coiled antenna is RIGHT next to it on the left. its a tightly coiled black wire tightly wound around a zip tie and wedged through the cut tip of the zip tie.

Why run it internal? If you are in a comp and you have an antenna sticking way the heck out it can touch gate markers racking up points.

ummmmmmmmm, you contridicted yourself... then that is the reason to run it internal if you afraid to hit a cone.I have never had that problem myself though :neutral:running it external is to have it sticking out | |

i run mine theaded through a piece of sign board it looks like cardboard but made of plastic. just lace it back and forth through the runners and sevo tape it to the reciever. and to get some of the sign board just stop by your local sign shop im sure they will give you a piece of scrap it only takes a piece about 1"x2" |

My internal antenna on my TLT, the only thing I would not do inthis pic is route the end of the antenna back under and across the antenna cause this definitly cuased glitching. Once I pulled the end out and let it hang the glitching stopped. My internal on my Clod with NN chassis. Very simple and works great. |

May I suggest adding this thread or something similar to it as a sticky to Electronics or General Crawlers? I was curious about concealed antenna mounting pros, cons, and how-tos in a crawler, which this thread answers pretty well, but finding this thread is not an easy job. Thanks in advance |

I keep my antenna under the body mainly cause it does'nt need to stick straight up when you are rarely more than 10 feet away from it. Makes for a better looking rig IMO w/o an antenna sticking out of it. I use a normal antenna tube, but it has a ball end on either end w/ holes for the wire to pass through. The wire goes all the way through the tube then enough is left to spiral around the outside all the way back. Each ball end is bolted to the frame in back so it makes a loop, like so: This way the antenna is not in close proximity to any other wiring, it hangs off the back of the chassis. Glitch-free... |

Or.....you could just run 2.4ghz where the antennae are only about 3" long and are easily hidden under the body |

I run mine on a zig zag pattern on a spare lexan piece. I double stick it to the receiver so I can swap fro rig to rig easily. Here is a pic. I can take a better pic if you need it.

I take a zap strap, bend a curve into it and coil the wire around that... Depending on where the RX is, the zap strap goes on the box the RX is in or the zap strap gets servo taped to the side of the RX... Keeps the antenna out and up but still in the body... |
