Default Sidewinder

Hey all still new to this crawler stuff but not new to rc. I just got my Venom Creeper setup, using a cc sidewinder esc cc bec HS-645MG servo, and ep 4600 7 cell nihm. Running it with my new Spektrum dx3s (wow btw). My problem is the drag brake seems to be extremely week, I set it to 100% using the castle link but it seems very week, any idea what I am doing wrong?

What motor? a good motor make a big difference. Most find the drag brake on the sidewinder lacking... me i LOVE mine...35T hand wound with hard brushes and springs gives me good holding when i want it and plenty of drag to control my down lines... i set my DB to 70%.

never ran one of those... does it use a standard laydown or standup brush endbell? if so get some trinity purple brush springs(stiff)... that will help the drag brake some. One thing to keep in mind... its a DRAG break not HOLD brake like the novak's ect... it will slow ya down but not stop ya and hold. However, i find, unlike most mine will hold IF i tap the brake and then let off on a down line... if i just let off the sidewinder just slows me down.

I think the brakes on the SW suck! I've ran a HH 500 puller, Novak 55t, HH 35t....and in my Wreckluse it wont even stop it on flat ground Get a Mamba Max

The MM has a better drag brake? The thing is I stole the sidewinder from one of my street trucks so now am looking to get another esc, was thinking either a rooster to put in the crawler and put the sidewinder back in the other truck or something else not sure which way to go was real happy with the sidewinder in the other truck

SO TRUE on the SW Drag Brake not being up to snuff. I have run the Novak 55T motors and found that they just would not stop my rig. (I am running dual Sidewinders) I am starting to play with a pair of Warrior II 45T motors, and find them better in this area, but not enough brake. It is the ESC...definitely not the motor completely (Does make some difference). I find that I am shorting motors with the dig switches to get more stopping power..and I know that this is not ideal.

i run a sidewinder and a 55T integy with purple springs and it's plenty of drag brake for me. no, it won't stop it from rolling slowly down a steep hill but it does make it very controlled.

maybe tell us what you expect a drag brake to do and we can tell you how to get there.

my sidewinder is set at 100% DB with a 55t holmes handwound 540 and it creeps ever so slowly down hill, but if i hit reverse ever so slightly it stops and will hold there untill i hit the throttle to go....on a full throttle run across my kitchen floor and i just let go of the trigger the tires will lock up and slide to a stop....i'm happy with that performance from my SW........bob

If ya want a real drag brake get a fxr. Sidewinder does have a sad brake. Plus ya need a "special" computer (won't work with vista, me or mac) and link to set it up.

I wouldn't totally ignore castle's products, I run a sidewinder as well, with an integy 55t. I find the drag brake to be sufficient enough, when it does engage. However if you are considering a different brand, my research would point you to the Tekin Fxr instead of the Novak products. Just my opinion.

I was running that motor to start too. I had the same problem with my DB. I swapped for a novak 55t and that was it, problem fixed. Im VERY happy with my sidewinder. couldnt ask for a more user friendly, tunable esc.
