Default Mamba max+cobalt 7t

Would a mamba max and a cobalt seven turn and an axial tranny have enough balls to run a pair of x factor axles and an aluminum chassis with reasonable wheel speed and torque? Also if it would what pinion and spur ratio should i run? thanks

Jake

It's all about the battery. 6 cell NiMH, you won't notice much, 3 cell lipo, yeah you'll get the wheelspeed and torque you're looking for. The 7t motors do tend to run a little warm, so gear down to probably around a 12-14 tooth pinion, 87t spur gear.

You can get a 3 cell Zippy for 20.00 + shipping. Shipping is a killer but if you are looing for more than one or a cheap BL motor + esc. Google Zippy and check m out.

if the nimh cells have the output it should be fine. when I first loaded up a 7t i thought "WTF i thought this was supposed to be badazz" but with a powerful :ie, 50-60 amp continuous: pack, it really comes to life.

9 cells would be roughly the same as a 3s lipo. I would be hesitant to go to 10 unles you make a heat sink fit the motor.

The axial trans for a shafty super works pretty well, but you'll need to beef up the trans a bit. HR aluminum gears, CDW 6mm outdrives and a sturdier motor plate are pretty much mandatory, the stock motor plate flexes a lot and eats spur gears. Speaking of spur gears, most guys run a 91t spur and carry spares, even with the beefed up motor plate the spur is the weak point. A slipper wouldn't be a bad idea either.

As for batteries, I'd run a 7 or 8 cell sub-c pack, that motor will get really hot on 9 or 10 cells in a super. If you decide to run 3 cell lipo I'd advise you pay real close attention to motor temps. The 10t is really a better motor for a super, they're a bit slower, but they have more torque and they don't run as hot.

I'm talking about the holmes hobbies 10t cobalt puller. It's just like the 7t, it just has 10 turns instead of 7. They're somewhat hard to come by, but holmes has the armatures on hand. I think he's waiting for cans so he can put some together, you better jump on it when they go up for sale. They're really a better all around motor than the 7t. He also made a 5 turn for a while, but they were really just too fast.
