If you were to buy one ESC and One Motor ?

If you were to buy one ESC and one motor what would it be ? I am working on a wheely King right now but would like to upgrade when I get more $ . So, I will be transferring the ESC and motor into the Losi 1/10 when it comes out.
I would like to have a bulletproof esc and motor that can be used competatively in comps also.
Thanks,
Raz

I just bought a castle creations sidewinder with link and bec. So far I'm just lovin it. I think the drag brake is a tad week, but it still does its job. I'm pushing a 55T Integy motor. I'm liking it, but I think it needs more top end. Might bump it up to a 45T. If money is tight like my budget, this has been a great setup. Comp worthy, I'd say so, but I'm just an FNG around here :-P

That Integy motor is what makes your drag brake week, swap it for a good handwound Holmes motor and you'll see a difrence.

I run a MM/Cobalt 10t and a Sidewinder/35tHHH, I highly recomend either one of these setups."thumbsup"

If you can wait JRH is coming out with a wicked ESC, purpose built for crawlers, that should be out in July. You can check it out at his web site. Pair that up with one of his handwound 35's or a puller, and you should be pretty well pleased. Just my 5g of copper plated zinc..."thumbsup"

I am kinda new to the crawler scene , but this setup would work for practice and comps also ?

Being ignorant , why the 35 T over the 45 or 55 ?

Thanks,
Raz

FXR and 55T Integy motor, here
IMO you can't go wrong with the FXR, i love it"thumbsup"

I might have to look into this more, i guess when you pay $22:roll:
That Integy motor is what makes your drag brake week

Mamba Max and a 10t Holmes Cobalt puller....it really is all that and a bag of chips. If I couldn't run that,it'd be a Mamba Max and a 35t Holmes Handwound. Other ESC's do a really good job. It's hard to beat the robust features of the max though. It's really hard to hurt one in a crawler.

It is about the wheel speed, needed to pop up over the hard spots.

X2 - the widest range of adjustability of any esc, and best combo of torque and wheelspeed of any motor.

Tekin FX-R's are also very capable, and in a much smaller footprint if space is a factor in your build plans. I'm running my 7t CP on one now, it's very smooth and the drag brake is solid as a rock.

The FX-R also has "push control" which I'm really liking for my scale truck, it lets the truck coast for a bit when you let off the throttle instead of instantly locking up the wheels. It makes the operation of the truck look a lot more realistic. If I need to stop fast or on an incline, slightly pushing past neutral into reverse locks the wheels. Going back into neutral then into reverse again engages reverse.

Or for comp use you can set instant reverse w/ no brake or push, just drag brake...

I'm building a new rig with a Holmes Cobalt 10T motor. Can you explain what the advantages of running the Mamba Max over a Sidewinder would be for this motor? I haven't bought an ESC yet.

bigjay1973 05-18-2009 01:54 PM

it gets the job done....

budget wise...i use a rooster and a 55t novak combo. if you buy cheap you get cheap???i know mine is not super expensive, but it works better than stock.

axman2010 05-18-2009 06:36 PM

FXR and an integy 35t. Cheap motors are the best, that way when/if they quit, you arent as mad lol

I've got a fxr pro I'm pulling of my comp crawler that is good to go--has maybe 10 packs through it. I loved it. Its small and very easy to use. It has wires, deans, and a CC BEC all soldered in. I take $120 plus shipping for it.

Let me know.
Chris
