I am going to order a Crawler King RTR kit to get me started. I figure I would go ahead and get a Lipo battery charger kit. Who makes the best batteries and charger for a "budget" lipo setup. What I mean by budget is best bang for the buck, not cheap as in poor quality. Also is there anything else I need to add to the truck to handle lipo batteries? Thanks in advaced for your help! |

You need to make sure that your ESC can handle the voltage of the battery. You also need to have a low voltage cutoff in your system, whether that be built into the ESC or an external LVC. You should not allow the lipo to drop to less than 3.0V/cell. As for a charger, I prefer the Hyperion 606I AC/DC. It isnt cheap, but it works perfectly! |

If you're on a budget, and want to go Lipo without busting the bank, try the $37 Turnigy Accucel-6 Lipo balancer/charger and Zippy Lipo's from Hobbycity.com. You can find reviews of the charger online simply by googling "turnigy accucel-6". I have 3 Zippy Lipo's (two 2200mah 3S for my Axial crawler and one 5000mah 3S for my Slash), and the charger works great. |

Runtime will really depend on your setup (motor, gearing, etc.). Those Zippy packs are great for someone on a budget....I have about 6 zippy packs. I have had a few of them that came with a bad connector. Hextronic (the manufacturer of the Zippy packs) uses knock off Deans connectors... |

Any of the Hyperion chargers are great, and they have a built in balancer which is a huge plus. For the price, you can't beat a Zippy pack. If you want the best, look into an Enerland cell based pack such as Flightpower, Thunderpower, Polyquest, PolyRC, NeuEnergy, etc. I really like the NeuEnergy packs, and they have great prices as well.

I can get about 50-60 mins of runtime out of my 3S 2200mah pack. I'm running an fxr, cobalt 10T and my crawler weighs in at 5.6 lbs.

| ![]() On my Axial (w/ 7T Puller and 1350mAh 3S) I can get about 45 minutes of run time. On my 2.2 Clod (with 55T and 1800mAh 3S) I can get well over an hour... Generally, the faster your motor is, the shorter your runtime will be. |

I like my Duratrax Ice charger. I would also look at the team checkpoint, it looks to be the same but has a back light, and thats what I don't like about the ice. As for lipos, I like the yellow Rhino packs from hobby city. They are half the price or even less than some of the other brands of lipo packs and mine have worked very well. If you can afford the name brand batteries and money is no object then go for it, but I am a cheap bastard.
