Default Spark when connection battery?

Newbie? I get a spark when connection the battery, is this normal? The ESC is off and the BEC connects the servo's power. I have checked for shorts, bare wires etc., but the only possible short is where the motor back of the case does touch the chassis (not the brushes)... I have checked to see if there is any voltage at that point with no results.
Again is this normal? It also happened with my last motor which did not touch the chassis.

Yes, that is normal. Usually see that when the ESC is in the on position while plugging up the battery. Won't hurt...

You say the ESC is off, but does the BEC go through the switch? If not, it's the BEC drawing current as you connect the battery that's causing the spark. Nothing to worry about, as the previous poster said.

Its normal but can give you a scare if you're not ready for it. You will get MORE of a spark the higher voltage/capacity batteries you are using, and if your ESC has a capacitor on it as a reserve. This capacitor is what is causing the POP when you hook it up, its "charging" up so to speak and does this rapidly hence the little spark. The Xcelorin system from Losi really gives a good little "pop" when hooked up.

You think thats scary, hook up a 12s 5000mAh pack to a 700sized heli... It lets out a WALLOP of a spark/POP when hooked up...

Thanks all... Yes the Tekin FXR does have a capacitor and the BEC is connected direct to battery connection and bypasses the ESC direct to servos.

I always plug the battery to the charger, then the charger to power source.
