NO MODIFICATIONS NECESSARY
Like Novak’s Electronic Dig Unit (#5450), the M2 Dig ESC does not require any vehicle modifications to install or operate. Simply plug it into any three-channel surface receiver, and you’re ready to crawl! The M2 Dig ESC is easily programmed into most three-channel transmitters, such as the Spektrum® DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface Radio™, Airtronics’® M8 and M11 R/C Radios™, and a Traxxas® (TQ-3) Transmitter™.*

That's funny! -( They never mention the dx3e and it's 2 position switch? :? Wonder how much we ought to trust this tech support?

The DX3E has a 3 position switch. You're probably thinking of the DX3.0?

i think the e has a 3 pos third, but the mixing of the futuba 3pmx would be a much better radio for this ESC.

I'm sorry. I was thinking of the DX3S. The DX3e is the new cheap one with all the knobs. I'm not a spektrum guy. But still the tech guys didn't mention the specific radio and it sounded like ad copy rather than tech. At least to me.

It's offical go check it out:

Picture the functionality and utility of two Novak Goat Crawler Speed Controls in brushed mode, two 55-turn crawler brushed motors and Novak’s Dig Unit; now, envision it in one highly programmable, inexpensive package and you get the revolutionary M2 Dig 3S ESC / Dual Terra Claw Brush Motor Combo (#1845). This first-of-its-kind, dual-motor compatible speed control – the M2 Dig 3S Dual Brush ESC (#1846) – is combined with two Terra Claw Crawling Brush Motors – 55T (#3556) and independently controls the motors to perform dig maneuvers. In addition to standard digs, the M2 sports independent biasing of the front and rear motors to allow for precise maneuverability through tricky terrain, and exceptional control on steep inclines and downhill descents. The M2 ESC is compatible with any Super Crawler dual-system rig, such as EnRoute’s® Berg™, Integy’s® Super and Unlimited Class of crawlers, and Clod Buster®-based vehicles.

I sent techsupport an email asking if the freewheeling downhill was fixed in the M2. Because that really killed the goat for me.

I got an email back the next day saying

The M2 is a totally new design. Through testing, I have not experienced any freewheel issues.

This is what I've been tryin to figure you with the current setup im running. At the moment I have a novak esc (superduty) and would like to get this M2 for my super to have dig. But at the same time I wanna keep my 4ws that I have thru a punkrc mod and a TQ3 radio. And Im thinkn if I get the M2 that would mean see ya later to my current 4ws setup and prolly have to buy futabas new 2.4 crawl radio.
If thats the case, I prolly wont bother and end up goin with punkrcs other mod that has dig and 4ws in one... IDK

Ya really need at least 4 channels to run dig and rear steer, but ya could "y" the steering together (rear steer all the time) and use the 3rd channel on tq3 for dig. I'm sure there are other options with the punk controller but I don't know much about it. I just got a dx6 (park flyer) for $92.50 shipped off ebay. I'm gonna use it to run rear steer and dig (dual esc) on a little HR axle basher.
