Default Goat, Red/Green LED's Solid

Here is my problem. I have a Novak Goat with a 18.5 Brushless running in my Losi CC. I am running a Castle Creations BEC. I disconnected the red wire (BEC) coming from the ESC to the receiver so I am only running the CC BEC. Everything was running good until recently. I now get the red and green solid lights. I looked in the manual and it says to check the inputs on both the receiver and the ESC. I dont seen any visible problems. I have two fully charged batteries and no apparent freyed wiring or touching contacts. Maybe you can point me in the right directions? Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Here is what the instructions say for troubleshooting:
Red & Green status LEDs on solid––Check input signal harness connections at ESC and receiver. Check input signal harness wiring sequence––Refer to Step 1.

I dont see any apparent problems with the wiring.

Red/Green meas the ESC is not getting any signal from the RX.

This could mean the throttle channel on the RX has "gone bad".

The RX wire on the ESC is plugged into either the RX or the ESC backwards (very common), the RX wire is damaged in some way.

OR, the ESC is simply busted. The ESC is marked with a small label so you can tell which way the plug goes in. On the RX side, usually the black wire goes to the "outside edge" of the RX.

Good Luck.

does your steering still work ok??? if so, just as a test swap the esc and steering around at the receiver see if anything changes. if the steering works hooked to the throttle channel, your radio gear is ok.

Check your frame rate on the radio.

All,

I appreciate all the suggestions but everything was working fine yesterday and last night when I plugged in to adjust the dig, I got red and green lights. I thought maybe it was lipo cut off but I had a fresh battery. I tried a different battery and got the same results. I dont have any steering or anything. I tried unplugging everything one item at a time from the receiver and then plugging in a the battery as I went but still nothing. I tried swapping the steering with the throttle and got nothing either.

If you are using a CC BEC and the steering doesn't work, it's not the ESC that's causing the problem - you don't need the ESC to make the steering work.

It's either a lack of power to the Rx (faulty BEC or wiring), or a faulty radio.

You've probably got the lights on the ESC because the Rx isn't sending it a signal. It's likely a symptom, not the cause, of the the Rx problem.

Disconnect the BEC, refit the ESC red wire, and see what happens.

I would say it is a bad BEC if you are not getting any steering... I don't know why but I have gone and burned up those CC BEC like candy... glad they are cheap

2nd vote goes to a bad RX

So I peeled back a little bit of the wrapper on the BEC and found the leads all freyed. The light wasnt even on on the BEC and when I wiggled them, I got a green light, and the orange light on the receiver is flashing.

I dont think it's going to be a problem (I hope nothing shorted and got fried). My problem now is that I do not know how to solder... I know, laim right? I've read a few threads on here about soldering. Because the contacts on the BEC are so close and small, im afraid im going to bubble gum it up and the contacts will touch. I don't even own a soldering iron. Any good ways to learn to solder would be appreciated (aside from just go for it!)

you will not be able to save that BEC (the master of all soldering couldn't save it), just throw it away and get a new one

oh and 1 point for me, I knew it was that damn BEC from the 1st post

sorry man, good luck with the new one

LEARN TO SOLDER, but it isn't going to help you with your problem, just something you need to learn for this hobby
