I run a 2cell lipo which is 7.4 volts I get about an hour+ run time, remember your going slow,so your not drawing that much . You can get them wet and muddy... STAY far away from salt water that will kill it!

Depends on how wet and muddy you're talking.

If you want it absolutely waterproof, Max Amps has them.

Otherwise, be cautious and dry everything out as soon as you can.

And you should have all the electronics in a box if possible, the FX-R and most other ESC's that are not waterproof will cook if they get wet. Maybe not right away, but it will happen.

Run time...for reference I'm getting 40 minutes on Holmes 3s 1300 packs with a 45T, 7955TG servo, 5245MG dig servo, and an FX-R.

I would avoid getting a lipo wet unless it is one of the sealed maxxx amp deals, if you want it to get wet and muddy just pick up some nimh cells, and like bigsky said because the trucks are geared low and the high number of winds the current draw from the motor is low and even cheap sport packs can give you decent run times. This is a part of rc where lipos really aren't needed, the biggest bonus we get is weight savings.

The ORCRC crew and myself and lots of other guys get our lipos wet all the time, no worries really. The maxamps thing is pretty hilarious, since each lipo cell is sealed anyway, the only benefit is the tabs will rust quicker on the other "unsealed" packs. But yes, steer clear of salt water.

Weight savings is only a small part of the equation. More power, longer runtimes with smaller mah's, and the consistent power output from beginning to cutoff are what really make them way better than NiHm, besides weight.

35T is the norm nowadays for motors, with 20-25T for those of us who are more power hungry, or big Cobalt Puller motors for sheer brute strength.

Mcreil41, with your setup anywhere from 1100mah(probably 30-40 mins) to 2200mah(several hours) of runtime depending on throttle usage. I really like the 1700mah 3cell and the 2200mah 3cell packs from CBP.

smaller 1300mah packs
