Nothing is truly waterproof, it's only a matter of time before it shorts. Brushless is harder to waterproof than brushed, but it can be done decently. There's a few different methods out there. I DO NOT recommend using liquid electrical tape or anything like that, it's a false sense of security and is never fully waterproof. I've opened plenty of ESCs that have been "sealed" using this method only to find them full of water. You can always seal up the ESC/receiver decently inside a project box of some sort, but the motor is tricky and there are no guarantees, so be ready to purchase electronics more often if you plan on running in very wet conditions. I avoid water like the plague because I don't want to be replacing ESCs and motor sensor boards every time I go out and run. |

The Castle sidewinder 3 is listed as waterproof, but I'm not sure if it can run brushless, and Holmes offers a waterproof ESC as well. brushed motors are much less likely to have problem with water, although like Ty said nothings guaranteed. I like to use the ESC's that the manufacture says are waterproof cause there is some recourse if something goes wrong, if you do it yourself your screwed if something goes haywire

Yeah well just because they say its waterproof doesn't mean its really waterproof. Don't forget your bearings and bare metal, all of that stuff would rust in muddy water. Trust me, I have plenty of experience with rust, it's your truck..do what you want but I sure wouldn't run it in water. Use the old fashion way of plasti dipping your esc,get a esc and plasti dip it, saves money.lol. But good luck.

I use Conformal Coating. I have tried plasti dip / liquid electrical tape, epoxy, silicone... A lot of stuff. The statement "Nothing is waterproof" is true. There is always a chance. A 2 part method is better. EX. Conformal Coat the board and then epoxy it into the case. That being said, I have created some videos showing how to waterproof. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClS...r2aKTNw/videos I am only linking this to show you what I do. Can't stress that enough. I have how to videos and running videos. |

I looked at the Novak combos. I looked into it further and found more come than pros. I run a castle MMP and a hobbywing 3656sd sensored motor. Couldn't be more happy with that combo. |

Hobbywing - HOBBYWING North America — Xerun Sensored Brushless Motor 3656 SD MMP - TowerHobbies.com | Castle Creations 1/10 Mamba Max Pro ESC Smart Sense If you check the for sale section people sell the MMP frequently. So you could possibly get a better deal than buying new. The motor in my experience, for the $85, is the best I've used. Others can attest to the quality as well. |

The castle sidewinder and a sensorless brushless motor will work fine in water just keep the bearings clean and oiled but you may have some cogging at low speed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've had good results decasing the electronics, potting them in epoxy and casing them. I've run completely submerged and in heavy rain etc. Hard for water to work through 1/8" or so of epoxy. But I run brushed motors so no idea about how brushless motors handle being submerged.

What you have to look for is moisture proof. Liquid electrical tape is not, from what I read. Most conformal coatings are. It seem that those xerun are very popular. I dint see them when I ordered my tekin roc. Kind of disappointing is made in china for that price premium you pay. But I hear good things about tekin customer service so that's a plus. I just found this one a hacker, from my days in airplanes they build super good motors so I can only hope that moved to their car motors. https://www.aero-model.com/8_156_115...r-SC-6.5T.html It seem to be a good kv for 2S they have two other Kv versions. Robert what kv are you using? |
