From the website.. I believe that he states the Yokoma has a different can.. I read that as a "cheaper" can..

Smaller commutator and stand up brushes on the Yokomo based motor means it's more for RPM than torque.

The other has a larger commutator and has lay down brushes which typically favors torque over RPM.

Larger comm will have less rpm, more torque than a small comm due to the brushes having less wraparound, or "firing" time. Not a huge difference, but noticeable.

Standup brushes with will have lots less rpm and maybe more torque than laydown due to having less wraparound or "firing" time. Changing from one to the other makes a huge difference in my experience (requires big gearing changes in a racer). Laydowns are less efficient, and tend to wear the comm faster.

Ultimately, the difference between laydown brushes with a big comm and standups with a small comm isn't much. Probably a wash.

Not sure why the laydown brushes are so common in good crawler motors, other than they are probably what is available for cheap.

I prefer the big comm with standup brushes. Which is what Holmes had back with the gray cans.
