Looking for a radio need some advice I'm looking to upgrade from an FM system to 2.4ghz. I've been looking around for a radio searching through threads and sites but maybe someone can help me sift through all the information out there. I need 3 channels with a 3 pos. Model memory is not a big deal but then again I don't know anything about binding so I have no idea if binding it can get annoying every time i need to switch a rig. I was looking at the futaba 3pm-x but the recievers are very expensive. Then there is the DX3E coming out that has a 3pos but no model mem. I was looking at the big offroader but that doesn't have a 3pos. I have no clue. |
If you can find a Spektrum DX3, that would be a good route. 3 model memory 3 position 3rd channel - stock rocker switch or can easily be modified with a toggle Easy to find rx's Put in a 3 cell lipo for days with out charging Recievers are around 50-60. The TX is discontinued, but they can be found for around 85 used. Just keep an eye on the forsale section and a tx will usually pop up once every 2 weeks or so. |
If you can, wait and save for it, I think $190 for a Futaba 3pm-x is worth every penny! I think the amount of options for for the $$ is outstanding. Not only do you get a 3pos 3rd chan switch, but you get 4 of them (at least 4 locations and you can choose which one you want to use), plus programable mixing for 4wheel steering if desired. I just picked up mine 2 days ago and wish I had done it a lot sooner. The programming can be a little confusing at first, especially if your going by the manual, but there is some great info on this site that shows you exactly how to set it up in just a few minutes!! |
no matter what 2.4 you look at the receivers are going to be around 80-90 I like the airtronics rds8000 you have plenty of room to upgrade say if your building a scaler you can have a winch a dig and lights off the remote so that's my vote or the dx6i if you want to stick with 3ch then I vote for the dx3 or pm-x |
How come some of controllers say no servo. or servo in the package? |

http://www.kopropo.com/america/index...=35&Itemid=138 Amazing radio, tons of features and 7 model memory. Oh and it has a 5 position 3rd channel and each position has an indevidual EPA. I counted mine and its got something like 20something different adjustable options. All for $189."thumbsup" and the receivers are TINY http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/DSCF0308.jpg |
Great help guys. So sounds like I'm looking for a rare DX3 or an Airtronics RDS8000. The Futaba 3pm-x is also a possibility. Anything else I need to know? |
Just get a spektrum dx3r you will not regret it . 3 position 3rd channel and you can get 3 ch receivers for $40 to $90. I have one and have 4 soon to be 5 cars on it as far as binding it is not hard to do with mine I set it and forget it for each car. |
If you get a chance to hold different radios you should do so. See how they fit and feel. I have a dx3r and it's really light and the 3 pos switch is very easy to get at. |
after much searching, i got a DX3R and love it. One thing to bear in mind if you have several RCs is the cost of receivers. Its no good saving a few $ in the first place is you find that the RXs are costing a fortune for your other models. I found the spektrum to have the right mix of features and price, especially the RXs so all my cars can go 2.4Ghz with thier own RXs |
futaba been here for years i like them |
Newb radio question hey guys, I'm new to crawlers. I currently have losi night and a scale jeep unlimted walmart crawler. I just bought an axial xr10 and am trying to build it up. I've takin alot of ideas from your guy's set ups but I don't know what radio to buy. I don't want to spend to much. Thnx for any help |
whats your price limits, and what do you want on the xr-10. dx3e should work, unless you want cutting breaks then your gonna have to get a 4 channel. Like the 4pk. |
DX3R is a great radio i had no complaints with it i upgraded to a 4PK and it makes the DX3R feel toyish |
If ya don't have enough for a 4pk get a stick radio (6ex/dx6i). Ya will want the 4 channels with the xr10! Other wise a 3pm x is way better bang for the buck than a dx3r. |
