| FX-R drag brake (lack there of)
I shot a quick video of the issue we are having with our FX-R's. Both Jeff and I used the Hotwire link earlier in the day to make sure we had the latest version and all that good stuff with drag brake at 100% Here's what we are experiencing... This happens going uphill too. Any ideas?? Last edited by chops1sc; 01-07-2010 at 07:13 PM. |

I'm glad you posted this. I've wondered...my FX-R's drag has always allowed that slow little creep on an incline like that (drag at full, programed via ESC); that's running an MRC with a Stump Puller... I though it was normal at an angle like that. Hmmm. :?

Yeah we just went to the FX-R from the Rooster Crawl and we are not very happy at all. The only reason we changed was so we could run 3s lipo. kinda wish I didnt change now.

I am running one with a HH puller 500 and it holds my BWD Wk pro comp rig on a 62% slope just fine. What kind of radio? Think you throttle deadband might have something to do with it. If mine is the least bit out of the deadband it would creep. |

Mine is DX3R his is a Futaba I think. He has the Hotwire at his place so I cant adjust mine right now but he said he played with the dead band on his and it didnt help any.

I run both radios. I run the futaba 3 pm-x More than the DX3r. What motors you running. The magnet power of some motors affects it also.( If i remember right)

Where is the drag brake setting, there is travel and % or applied brake you can adjust but not drag brake setting on the radio.

That's a new one to me. There's a brake strength, but that has an effect on the reverse strength also. I have to admit, I've never tried the drag brake setting past half way up cause I like the slow roll. Why are you parking on a hill? |

Did you re-sink the ESC to the TX after you adjusted the settings? If so, and you're still having problems, it may have something to do with the throttle dead band.

| Not parking on a hill, silly! But during certain climbs or obstacles it will roll back (or forward) and its very annoying. And if I were at a comp it would cost me a reverse penalty.

I never cared for the drag brake from the stock motors. At the very least, I'll use a Integy V11, if not a Tekin, HH or JP handwound.

I guess my major complaint is this. We changed from Novak Rooster Crawl ESC (running the stock 55, BTW with no issues) to run the FX-R and it is not performing at the level the Rooster was. I didnt expect it to be a unstoppable beast with the FX-R but I did expect it to at least perform at the same level as the Rooster. 2 guys, 2 different radios, 2 different motors(age and brand) and we have the same problem. I just dont get it. |

It's not a problem. It's different. It doesn't lock up like the Rooster does. Super stiff motor springs would help, like Trinity purple or the next one up. So would a real motor, no offense. Magnet strength makes a difference. And.... don't let off the gas. |

I forgot to say I have the purple springs, The 45T inherited those from my old 55, lol. I take no offense as this is not a high-dollar rig. I guess I'll wait for Novak to come out with an ESC that can handle 3s lipo and switch back. |

I had the same problem with my FXR and I came from a Rooster as well. I used my tekin hotwire, tried every setting under the sun, messed with my DX3r as well. But I was able to fix it... I traded my FXR for a Goat3s to further ensure I never had an issue with drag brake, I sold my Axial AX10 and bought a Losi Comp Crawler.
