yep, my mistake. Gear is Aux-1 Ch6, Flap ch-5
so it's
Ail and Mix switches for my 4wd/crab mom. buttons.

the stick people VS pistol people may be one of those 50/50 situations.
I have a lot of dexterity but can't stand using 3 fingers of each hand to hold a controller while using thumbs to control 4 different controls

To me solely using a finger Index or pinky for precise throttle and Right hand to control a rotating (normal motion) steering wheel while I have a solid easy hold of the controller in one hand is So much easier.

Fabricated the Extension for the PCB to fit on the back of the case
used 2mm steryne. still need to attach pcb screw stubs and cut window.
The screw hole tunnels to run the case screws through I could not find any correct size styrene at hobby shops so I used delrin which does not glue well. but they are just spacers for the case and hole for the screws to go through so big deal.
I will plastic weldit to fasten it on and finish it off.

The Ko case pcb mounted tabs I did not need so I cut them off to glue on and hold the new dx board.

Picking up Acrylic for the window and hopefully the correct size tube to make a Scroll wheel holder, 11mm I.D and 9/16 O.D

I thought what the heck, why not be the first DUAL Throttle Trigger Dual steering wheel pistol out there. Starting fab on attached 2nd Trigger to the bottom.

This is getting very interesting I got ripped off then in Aus I payed a $1.10 just for resistors alone So far I am in about $30. A sheet of sandpaper, a bottle of glue, styrene from the UK and the resistors! By the looks of things yours will be finished before mine! I just cut the housing for the scroll wheel out of the original case. Only problem is I broke the tiny shaft on the scroll wheel itself but I should be able to just glue a allen key in there to fix it, I hope

Do I hear a little race competition
yea it's gota be different. I was just brainstorming how I could get the LCD to sit on top of the radio. the PCB is under 2" wide so with a 3/4 Extension on the back that part would work, move the antenna to either end, so it just a matter of how much styrene work you want to do because you gota build up the top of the radio case (for mine anyway)
But I'm just going to put on the back of the case.

I have spent:
$11. in electronics. So far, think I need a 6pdt to select between the 3 way and the pot-2nd throttle.
$4. in plastic putty- could do with out
$6. Acrylic window
$14. in styrene ( 2mm , should have got 1mm instead of .75mm

Scroll wheel, yep I looked at it but I just couldn't bring myself to cutting it out.
I'm using an Aluminum Tube, hopefully it works out. almost done

Once the New Case is ready I will start moving the DX6i into it.

make that another $15.
Just broke my scroll wheel test fitting it into the new housing . I knew better but was tired
Ordered a Aluminum wheel http://www.eastrc.org/estorerollerbutton.htm
There used to be a lot of them on ebay with a great design, but no more.

BE Carefull with your Scroll wheel, evidently they break a lot. You just need to treat it nicely.

NOTE: if you need a new scroll Potentiometer, I believe this is the one --> http://www.acptechnologies.com/notic...30204184042468

Scroll wheel is an easy fix. Just drill out the the shaft so you are left with a hole. Then glue in a small allen key. Works perfectly! On the race competition I think I can fairly say you will win at this rate I was hoping to be able to finish the electronics up this weekend, but family decided to ruin that idea! Those scroll wheel look decent enough though, pity they don't add any extra 'style'!

OMgosh, excellent idea . thanks. I cant believe I didn't think of that. I was figuring out how to make a new wheel.
yea sad on the extra style.
EDIT Add, must be a a proprietary size because 1.5mm is to small, 2mm is to big, 1/16 to small. guess u could glue in a small one.

to bad on not finishing up this weekend, hope u have a good time though.
But it's a bit of a relief since I thought of this idea over a year ago and again somebody built it already. So it will be great to finish this before others do.

Dunno but the smallest imperial (standard) allen key I had fit perfect. It is just a tiny bit bigger than a 1.5mm and is used for imperial grub screws in traxxas metal yokes. I might be in the race if you take your time with your styrene work I kinda rushed mine a bit. Who would have known sanding putting is so tedious, even when watching topgear.

Fitted the PCB last night, and have to cut and modify styrene box.. the LCD screen has a nylon holder ( 2 White tabs in picture) that is wider on the top than the PCB board.
Also the 2.4 Chip (chrome square) needs to sit higher out of the case so it can sit inside the antenna molding. The PCB needs to sit higher but the LCD holder holds the LCD close to the PCB so I need to make a spacer to go between the PCB and LCD.
Be glad when this plastic fabbing is all done

Looking into ways to fit the antenna module without making a new box
Found a cool Electronics store today and picked up
LED, holder, and some parts to attache the Ant module

A whole lota styrene work, but just about done.

Used 2mm styrene and 3/32 acrylic for the window.
Zap CA+ glue and Weldit adhesive for the delrin screw tunnels and Acrylic glue for the window. Putty to fill in the gaps

In order to fit the 2.4 Antenna Module inside the KO antenna mount I dremeled out the inside a little and Moved the mount over. Also Angled the whole PCB box at an angle so the module could plug in directly with no adaptor/extensions. Ant hole had to fill in the with more styrene. Made a mistake in measuring and cut to much of other side. So Had to make 4 both sides plus the halfs (4 tiny pieces.

Working on Schematic. For the mini trim 2K pots it does not matter if on positive or negative.

ACut out of DX and Label up all 7 connectors. Hope to use it by Sunday !

Not screwed in. Black button on bottom right is the BIND button that will sit below scroll wheel.
Left side next to bottom trigger is 2 Way Selector switch for Trigger or 3 way 4wd/2wd/DIG

Rear steering module from Futaba radio

Looking good I am ready to solder mine up so I might just win yet Did you end up using the standard DX6i antennae? Angling the back case is a great idea, wish I had thought of that!

Scroll wheel for me wasn't hard. I thought since specktrum was so kind in making me one I would just use it Yeah school and work do mess things up a bit.

Kieren

BTW when you say school do you mean like a form of tertiary education? Because we call in University over here?

I was a bit unsure on how to go about the scroll wheel holder, but it turned out really well.
2mm steyrene and a aluminum tube

Just need to add some glue and paint
Added a Power ON LED indicator in Spektrum Bright Orange off course
The Bind Button (black) is below the scroll

That scroll wheel turned out nice When I say Specktrum made me one, I was talking about the one in the original case! Does that aluminum scroll wheel fit up alright?
