| Hi Torque, low cost...too good to be true??
Does this sound right? Say that at 6v a certain servo (link to servo below) makes 11kg of torque. I tried to convert this to ounces but I got a crazy number. 1kg = 2.2 pounds or 35.2 ounces.... So 11kg = 24.2 pounds or 388 ounces. There is no way that servo is making that kind of torque, it’s not a ¼ scale either. But, if it really is making that kind of torque, at $22 plus shipping, this is a heck of a deal!!! But something doesn’t seem right, where is my math wrong? Listed torque specs of 11Kg/cm converted to oz/in. (can't forget the "in" part) 11Kg/cm > 11Kg = 388oz 388oz/cm > 1 cm = .3937 in 388oz/.3937in = 152.76oz/in | |

Thanks guys, I friend of mine hooked me up too, here's what he wrote. "The stated torque rating is given in kg/cm. You (we) are used to seeing ratings given in oz/in. Since 1 inch = 2.54 cm, you'll have to divide your 388 oz by 2.54. Still a very powerful servo at ~150 oz/in." I'd totally missed the kg/cm part of the rating. Now that the math class is over, I gotta get to finding some cheap batteries to make some custom packs, there's a ton of Nimh batteries out there! Later, Tom |
