| Sticking Brush
My rear motor died on me when i rolled my crawler off a ledge. I bypassed the esc by plugging in a 3s battery directly to it to make sure its the motor. Still no power. So i played with the brushes and one of them are really hard to get moved but if i lift it off the comm then put it back down on it my motor worked again, but after a little more crawling it died on me again, but this time i gave it full throttle backwards (only front motor worked) the i jumped directly to forward and it started working again. And the cycle just keep repeatings but the solutions sometimes don't work first try but eventually do. Could this be because my brush is sticking somewhere or is my armature going bad. Oh and it is probably getting time to cut the comms but i doubt thats the reason cause i've seen motors in way worse condition. I know the basic parts on an electric motor but other than that i know nothing please help.

It's possible you dented the brush hood, which is causing the brush to do weird stuff.... Can you get me a pic of both of the brush hoods... It could be hung brush also, so it might be time to teardown the motor, cut the comm and install new brushes.... Later EddieO |

I think at this point your best bet is to disassemble the motor. The endbell unscrews. You can then fully remove the brush and check out the hood, and all that.

Little Sharpie marker on the endbell, and can will help. You could count the number of turns it takes to unscrew it I guess. Undo the springs before you unscrew the endbell. Or, here's a thread: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...89#post1247489 Or, here's two pictures: |

I tried that with my front motor but i can't quite neutral, but i like the sharpie idea. I'll probably disassemble it tommorow- Does this sound like the brush is sticking or could it be the armature thats bad.

Sounds like a brush to me, but I can't be certain from over here. Zero timed will put the brush hood more or less right in the center of the opening of the can. |

I was just playing with my car to see if i could replicate the results not by accident and i got the body mount screw wedged and pushing quite hard up against the brush hood and the motor won't move, can spin freely by hand, and when i un wedged it it started working again which explains why my backwards forward motion was working to fix it, but ive had two case's the first original one and another where it wouldn't move till i lifted the brush off the comm the set it back on it. Could i have damaged the brush hood just a smidge or bumped the spring since its right there causing the brush to stick. Also do pullers use a common brushs a lhs would carry. |

Could be the problem. If you can get the brush to slide in and out of the hood with nothing obstructing its motion, then something else is the problem. Here's brushes: http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...&cat=23&page=1 |

yea, i found those, but my LHS will cut the comms and put brushes in for like 10-15 bucks, so i was wondering if a standard brush would work. The first time I had to pull the brush up it had quite a bit of resistance, i don't remember how hard it was the second time. I didn't pull them apart yet, i'm gonna reset my suspension and go crawlin tomorrow and see if it was my geometry messing it up by shoving a button head up against the hood, i actually have a sale pending on these so i'm kinda hoping these aren't damaged it was just my car getting stuck in the brush hood.
