king of the hammer r1 rock buggy-holmes hobbies?

Hey guys - I've just finished a gmade r1 and I put the novak brushless goat setup in it 18.5 - it has decent wheel speed but>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have decided to build a king of the hammer track in my back yard in Georgia - What i need help with is recommendations for motor and esc. My thoughts are holmes hobbies waterproof esc, and 23 turn hand wound - i dont want too much drag - i will run 3 cell - any feed back on homes hobbies 23 turn would be great? any other suggestions welcome"thumbsup"

I guess the question is; what don't ya like about the goat ya are using? I would think a koth rig would be an excellent brushless app. I'm not a novak fan but since ya got it....8)

The goat system is good but you cant dial out the drag brake - i agree that brushless would be good, but the esc has to like freewheel as well - ill save the goat for an upcoming MOA!

First off, let me say that I don't care so much for brushless or Novak, and that I am a fan of Holmes motors and ESC's. I think the Holmes would do well.

That said, if doing any rock crawling, I prefer to run a drag brake. I really don't see the need to coast unless it's a full blown track racer. Even if your going as fast as you're going to go with a crawler, just don't completely shut off the throttle. With proper throttle control, you could easily run the fast sections yet still have the drag brake for the technical rock sections.

WOW!!??? Drag brake is a good thing crawling (its all the brake there is with instant reverse). If ya want to "freewheel" just don't go all off throttle. HH makes great stuff but the torquemaster esc still has drag brake (ya can dial it down) and ya may even lose some wheelspeed/torque going brushed. MOA is the last place I'd want a couple goats??? But ya go.....

all good points to consider - eddieo said that a 23 turn is good but a 19 is better - :ror: - gearing and voltage from there for torque or speed - Ive been a touring car guy for years and this is still new to me (can't get the fast outta my blood) - when I was saying dial the drag break out, i just meant "to not do ENDOS" would be a good thing going from 20 to 0 in ummmmm 1 second:shock: - could get expensive!

if you want some speed here ya go. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...=250676&page=4 post #69 for the current motor setup video. Running a Castle Sidewinder on 3S.
So far, all i have had to upgrade is the driveshafts to modded t-maxx ones.

ive seen your build - its tight - will it crawl when you need it to?

cant go wrong with the Holmes stuff, plus if your feeling a little crazy you can go 6s lipo:twisted:

not too much crawling ability with the setup now. i would just need to change the pinion from the 18t to like a 12 or so. Its a trade off.
there is video link to a HH test with the same motor on my thread somewhere. I think you have to jam a summit 2 speed in there somehow to get the slow and fast without changing things. dunno if it will fit.

If ya want to crawl and go fast either a good sensored brushless esc (mmpro - rs) and 10.5 - 17.5 motor on at least 3s or hh esc & 15t - 30t motor on 6s ought to do it!
