Default 2.4GHZ Under water

Anyone had any luck running digital under water? I have heard mixed emotions about this and I am wanting to get more input.

my old FJC was definitely a Submarine. It worked for about 2ft under water.

I've had my VXL powered scx-10 at least 6" completely under water and I had to stay right on top of the rig or the radio wouldn't work, I'd be leary about going any deeper.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how the RC submariners control their rigs?

most of the time they us AM or FM radios due to the wavelengths or some such workin better

It has to do with the wavelength of the signal. 2.4GHz frequency has a much shorter wavelength than 27 MHz and can't penetrate the surface of water. That is the reason that the US Navy nuclear submarines use ULF (Ultra Low Frequency = longer wavelength) for underwater communications.

Some run a wire off of the sail that floats, its good for a couple of feet under water.

I haven't used it myself but this might be an option.

Thanks for all the input I may set it up so that I can just switch out the receivers easily and put the fm in when I run in the water.

It wonīt help. Itīs just a boat receiver, for dual thottle and dual steering. Then it is waterproof. All of this doesnīt change a thing about it using the 2.4Ghz frequency band, which is causing the trouble under water.
