On a budget. Wondering whether or not to get a FXR with tekin 45's or 35's. Or a MMPRO with any other brand motors. Obviously I would have to get a punk dig or a RC4wd unit. Is there any other better for the money options that i don't know about? Jared |

If you are on a budget...... you dont need a FXR or MM Pro... You Do no want the RC4wd Dig because it is only FW, not locked. My suggestion, use the search function LOL or my personal budget build would start w/ a modded TQ3 radio and RX. then get a Micro Sidewinder, punk DIG, 2X HH sport 45t or 35t, and spend a lot on your steering servo. and buy your stuff from RCCRAWLER VENDORS. |

I would go Fxr and a punk dig. Those seem to get the job done with ZERO issues. If u can wait a few more weeks the Novak M2 will be out. $139 and thats a esc and dig in one clean unit. You will need a really strong steering servo I suggest a 7950, You will also have ot run an external BEC, Castle Creations Is the way to go there. It will money well spent and you wont burn anything out or have to upgrade in a few months, I've been using those electronics in my berg for Yrs with no issues. www.tcscrawlers.com has everything you would need. |

Do i need the hot wire to program the stuff required for crawling? I already have a castle link if I went that route. Jared | |

You don't need a programmer, It makes it easier but you don't need one. AS far as the servo goes, I've found you want at least 300oz at 6 volts, a hitec 7955 is 333oz at 6 volts. a hobbico cs170 is the same servo and is a lot cheaper. 200oz will get you bound up pretty easily a 7950 is over 400oz at 6v |

No, you get more features if you program with the hot wire, but I have been running my XR10 with the FXR's programmed via my fingers and haven't had any problems. I understand budgets and my XR10 basically blew the budget. I think the credit card is still smoking.. I agree, if you are really on a budget, the modded TQ3, One FXR, Castle BEC, punk dig, 45t machine wound motors, and a couple lipo packs would be my choice. Don't skimp on the steering servo. You want something that will turn, as the XR10 is a hard steering sucker. I have a S9157, with the castle BEC running at 6.0v and she works. It gets a little warm, so I put a heat sink on the case to help it stay cool. Oh, and my $.02 worth, stay away from 35t motors until you are ready to buy bearings, gears, spools, axles, etc... I have grenaded parts with my Tekin 45t motors. In my opinon, the XR10 is a pretty expensive rig right now. The aftermarket is coming on line and the parts are pretty pricy. I might look for a used berg or an AX-10 based rig in the for sale section, buy a star and you can view this section. You can get a good rig for a decent price and get started. Then when you save up some bucks, you will be ready to spend, and be 100% sure you are ready to make the commitment. Trust me, it hurts to spend almost $1000 in a car only to have to sell if for $500, with almost no run time on it. Good luck and welcome to the addiction. |

Me personal...If your going to run a Single ESC..Get something that Can handle 2 motors better....Something form castle...Sidewinder, mamba max, or a mamba max pro, with your punk dig...Later, if you can afford it. go with dual ESC's of your choice. mamba micro, sidewinder micros. or dual FXR's, and of course a 4ch radio.....GL |

No...But my ESC will get warm....Not hot, while bashing my MOA. I'm running one motor for each ESC...So why double the stress on it? I just think a bigger single ESC will be a better choice for running two motors.. |

Yep...If you get a used Torque Master, Mamba Max, Sidewinder in that order would be cool...Then get a cheap DX3E or something cheaper. For advance dual ESC setup, and a 4ch I would go FXR's, Mamba Micro, Sidewinder Micro in that order.. Last edited by fa1rch1ld; 10-19-2010 at 04:49 PM. |

look at a Mamba Max Pro. the tourqumaster is basically the same damn thing w/ different software, and less brushless capabilities. Plus, it has the best internal BEC you can get, so you wont need to run an external BEC. |
