Puller Pro tech thread This will be the tech thread for the upcoming Puller Pro motors. Since I can never leave well enough alone I have been working on improving motor designs for crawlers and robots for a few years now. So where do we start? The basic design of the motor is relatively simple. I wanted a very rugged radial flux motor with a kv around 2000, salient poles, and low phase resistance. This translates into a lot of torque at low speed, and the typical shape of a "toy" motor. Brushless and sensors are also a must. The power to weight ratio on brushed motors is not that great, and sensorless motors just don't start up well enough. I selected a 4 pole 12 slot inrunner design for this particular motor. The laminations are based on the Neu design, yielding extremely high efficiency for the aspect ratio of the radial motor. Since I am not limiting myself to "roar" specs this will allow for a slightly bigger rotor than other 4 pole 540 motors that will be showing up on the market soon. Two main designs are being made. One 550 sized motor for BIG power (around 1600w peak), and one 400 sized motor (1000w peak) for MOA and shafties that don't need to go past 10mph. Both designs will employ some detent reducing techniques to ensure that low speed drivability is above anything else available (besides a few other motor designs I am working on). Above anything else, the Puller Pro is going to be the highest power to weight ratio possible. Looking to break some parts? I can help "thumbsup" Look for the brushless revolution to start again in crawling. |

Very interested to see what you have come up with |
Break parts, hell yeah! Seriously I wanna make my rig pull wheelies! |
Keeping my eye out for these ...... "thumbsup" |
Watts what does like a one of your brushed 35t's do, or a current 7t puller. |
Great news. |

Sounds good"thumbsup" What will your recommended ESC be? I assume MMP for the big one and RS for the smaller one? Kieren |

Interesting.... |
ill take 2! |
It is always exciting to see what you come up with John. You can count me in on these. I'm especially interested in a pair of the 400 motors "thumbsup" Also curious about whether you are making your own ESC for these or if there is one that you recommend. |
Very interested. How ya think these outrunners will be on dual RS pros, 3s, on a XR? |
Hmm, I'm thinking i'll need one for my scaler...and my new 6th scale ratrod project. :D |
You need to find a hobby... Can't wait to see this one. |
Sounds great! |
bring on the power |

John, I'm really excited about these motors! Thanks for listening and giving us what we really want/need. Because a typical 540 "race" motor is 2 pole, will any of the currently available ESCs (MMP, RS, etc...) be able to drive the motor correctly? |
