i am using and i notice that most of the people are using the traxxas 3 channel receiver. they can be found relatively cheap on ebay and such. this along with a traxxas tq3 with the easy rear steer mod will allow for independant rear steer.

Most of your receivers now are 3 channel.

First off, how do you plan on running the 4ws? Seperate front and rear steer? If so you need a 3 channel in which case I think that most receivers are at least 3 channel. If you plan to add a winch or anything else you will need additional channels. But 3 should be enough unless your going to add alot of stuff. What Radio is it?

We deffinately need to know exactly what radio you have. AM/FM and 27mhz /75mhz recievers are totally different.
