| re-assembling a motor at zero degree's
i've been playing around with building my own motor, that hand wind thread was awesome, but how do I know i'm putting the endbell on at zero degree's this has been a problem for me eversince i've been taking apart my motors, usualy I try to NOT turn the ring so that the screws line up and give me a factory timeing, now i'm reassembling a motor I had fully apart so this is a problem.

The endbell has two notches on them 180* apart from each other. The can will typically have two screws on either side, maybe 1/8" apart, for the motor mount. The center between the two crews is 0*.

that makes sence, there is even notches in the can i'm looking at between the 2 mounting screws (also this is between the 2 magnets, wich should have been common sence lol), what markings on the endbell to I line up to get zero. thanks for dealing with my stupid questions, in the past i'd just buy a new motor instead of deal with all this, gotta learn at some point

Thankfully John tends to leave info like this all over the place. I found this here:Caring for your new Brushed motor Last edited by rock hard; 12-30-2010 at 07:52 PM. |

If the can you have doesn't have all those handy little marks, the screws in the endbell are the center point, like in the illustration above. Looking at the endbell, turning counterclockwise will increase timing.

to adcvance the timing on your motor It depends on how its mounted in the vehicle, you may have to go the other direction.
