Default dead lipo ?

I am new to this R/C stuff and enjoy it very much but I don't always have the time to enjoy (married with children). my problem is that I put my crawler away last fall 2009 and I decided to get it out and play with it yesterday and my 2cell lipo does not seem to be taking a charge . The last time that I had the crawler out I ran it till the crawler stoped running (battery dead) and i just put it away , did i screw up by doing so .

Yeah, it is likely that storing it dead for so long would kill the pack. Lipos like to be stored about half charged.
