Default DX3R or 4PL for a scaler

Hey all. I was wondering if a 4pl would be better for me then a dx3r for a scaler. I currently have a dx3r and it has been a good radio, besides a few binding issues which is no big deal really. I have a few different rc's but am really into scale rigs.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to sell my 3r and get a 4pl. I want to control my winch and lights all from the radio instead of having to take my body off all the time to do so. I know a 4pk would take care of that but 400! Is a bit out of my range right now.

I have read the spek differences between the two but really want someone who has one or can give me first hand experience and opinions. I have always owned spektrum but am always open to better products.

Thanks all for your time and help!

I've only read up to page 13 of the above thread and looked through the manual, and from what I've seen this is perfect for scalers as you have tons of options for manually controlling ch. 3 and 4 including the number of steps, EPAs, and which buttons control them. You should send a PM to NeroWolfe as he was looking at getting one for the same reason, see post 142:

I decide to try the RC4WD XR4 instead but I'm having an issue with it. If they can't resolve it I'll be looking to replace it with a 4PL for my scalers and fun rigs.

Well, I had trouble with my 2nd XR4, the throttle center position would shift once in a while or start to jitter. So I returned for a refund and now I'm looking at the 4PL.

Does anyone have experience and comments using the 4PL for a scaler, i.e. using channels 3 and 4 to control 3 speed trannies (like a Bruiser), lights, winches, etc...?? I doubt there'd be any issues but just want to make sure before I spend the money on it.
