Can I get by with running 3S on a Rooster? If I can is there anything I should look out for?

I am running 3s on a rooster with an integy 45t motor with no problems..... there isnt a cutoff for it, so you have to keep track of the time running or shut it down at first sign of lost power.....

Yepp, I have run 3 cell on a rooster....
The only thing you need to look out for is the voltage, like stated above.. and look out for the power increase

Default 3s

I run a 3s with a hh 35 t pro motor and no problems lots of wheel speed and power.but you might want to run the lipo cut off.

I assume you guys are talking about the Rooster Crawler version, what about the Rooster T-12 ESC? Same basic guts but different profile?

Well it is designed to use a 2cell lipo or 7 cells, so the only lipo cutoff it has is for a 2 cell battery.
It will handle a 3 cell tho, because it has a good 5amp intenal bec

To use a Rooster CE with 3S you NEED to use an external BEC, and go no more than 45T motors for safety. Period.

I fried one without using the external BEC (Castle BEC) with a 55T Holmes. I also fried one using a CCBEC and a 40T Holmes.

I ran one for over a year with the Holmes 55T, CCBEC and 3S. I sold the rig to a buddy with the same setup, but he uses saddle packs that are 9.6V and has no problems. He just won't upgrade to lipo.

The built in BEC will not handle servo duties and send power to the motor over a certain voltage. An external BEC (Search "CCBEC" and see the results), such as the Castle Creations BEC takes voltage directly from the battery and applies it to the steering servo regardless of throttle position. IE: I can only steer if I'm off the throttle. Once back into the gas, you can't turn. The RoosterCE will give throttle priority over steering. You get into a bind and can't steer.

You need a BEC.

ok i see, now do i need a external lipo cutoff? cause it says earlier in this thread the rooster only has a lipo cutoff for 2 cells?

I've never seen anyone run 3S on the Rooster successfully, they always shut down due to heat. But, I don't think they were running a BEC either.

Rooster Crawler on 3S, add:
- External BEC
- External 3S Lipo cutoff

I never used a cutoff. I just made sure to check voltages before, during, and after running it. If I used a smaller battery, I tried to time it. The cutoff would be a safety measure for the battery and isn't 100% necessary as long as you pay attention to voltage.

i have run my rooster crawler with 3s for 2 hours at a time and not had a problem. i use an external BEC to power the steering servos, but not a CC one as its hard to get hold of them in the uk. i just use the built in BEC to power the receiver

This gets curiouser and curiouser...Instead of an external low battery cutoff why couldn't a low battery alarm be installed...I have one for the 3S and it supposedly monitors all cells and sounds the alarm when voltage reaches the thresh hold. Just wondering...
