I have never seen those before but I would probably recommend going with a hardwired pack. Who knows how good the connection would be between the battery leads and the battery, I think the less connections you have the better off you are. If there is any extra resistance in that connection then you will just be creating a lot of extra heat. Also do you need the ability to change plugs? Just put all of the same plugs on all your vehicles and you wont need that ability. That is a big battery, with that much capacity you could easily run for a couple of hours in a scaler. I wouldnt go with that big of a battery for a comp style crawler, you would be better off with a couple of smaller packs (~1000mah). |

[/QUOTE] --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY? what is the problem for big capacity Lipos? I prefer to use only one battery for ALL day long with the crawler that changing batteries, I can take a rest every 15 minutes and be able to stay 3 or 4 hours playing with my crawler, that is a Hole morning or afternoon Is Weight the problem? Any Comments? Last edited by NDUTU; 01-09-2011 at 01:26 PM. |

For a comp rig, you want small batteries for: light weight easy to mount (low in chassis to lower CoG) enought time to do a course plus a little bit If you don't care to comp, most of the above are moot points, but it would still crawl better with smaller packs (for the 1st 2 reasons above). A high CoG will make it harder to sidehill as well as go up verticals, the higher CoG will roll you over easier. |

| 46000 Lipos Hardcase
OK I got the idea, But I dont want to compete, I am just building an all round Scale 1/9 Hummer H2 for Off Road, Trial , and a bit of Crawling, just for fun. All I need is the best type of battery for of couple of hours of Fun. So far I have the Team Orion 5100 mah NimH pack and I wolud like to know if going to LIPO will be a step forward or not . I just like the look of the: LRP LiPo Hyper Pack 4600 Hardcase (http://www.lrp.cc/en/products/vtec-b...dcase/details/) because it fits most Tamiya style chassis, and I was wondering if someone knows about those type of batteries... Like I said it would be fine for a scaler...I just think the detachable leads are a unnecessary feature that may make it perform worse. Also for a scaler you really dont need a hard cased lipo, just tuck it up somewhere where it isnt going to bet bashed on anything and it will be fine.

Going to LiPo would be a huge step forward....better then NiMH in pretty much every way. They are smaller, lighter, have more voltage and perform better then a NiMH Battery. and you dont' get the gradual slow down liek that of a NiMH the current is constant until you reach the cut off point then it just shuts down completely... Her's a chart for comparison. both batteries are similar in MAH capacity and voltage |

| How to charge LIPO
OK, I how do I charge a LIPO battery, because I see that the battery has a Banana Tamiya Plug and a Balancer Plug. How do I charge the Lipo , I have to connect ALL the 3 wires to charger? Or I have to Charge first and balance later? I have the LRP Quadra Pro 3 Charger - (http://www.lrp.cc/en/products/charge...arger/details/) and so far I have only charged NiMH and NiCD batteries.. The charger has a Balancer connector but i dont know if I have to plug it in while charging the LIPOS or not. Any ideas? |

For the same power in the pack, LiPO is smaller/lighter than NiCD or NiMH. I run NiMH in some vehicles (12th & 10th pan cars, 10th dirt buggy) but only use LiPO in crawlers (my son and I also comp) and we both run Venom ProChargers that can charge them. The LiPO's are just easier to deal with in a comp crawler due to weight & size vs. power required. | |
