Question 3Racing winch. Not enough power.

I've got a 3Racing winch on my Honcho and the thing just doesn't have enough power for me. Is there anything I can do to get more power out of it. I'm running it with a 7.2v NIMH battery. I have no experience with Lipos. Can I run it and my stock Axial ESC with a 7.4v Lipo? Do the Lipos give more power?

In short yes they do a lipos nominal is 7.4 so its .2v higher. Max recommended voltage is 2s lipo.
I personally have run a 3r winch off 3s lipo (11.1v nominal) but it burns out the control board way fast.

If you arent able to change your battery to anything higher that 2s lipo the only other option would be to twin motor the winch. (see here: http://thecrawlpit.com/forum/viewtop...ultimate+winch)

Or to make a servo winch (not as pretty but infinitely stronger pull and faster line speed.

Default 2s Lipo enough to run winch, lights, and motor

Would a 2s Lipo be enough to run the winch, my stock lights, and my motor on my honcho? Should I wire the winch to a seperate battery? Double motor winch seems to be a great idea.

Yup. 2s lipo will run everything...the only thing you will need it a low voltage cutoff as the stock axial esc doesnt have one.

Or change you esc to one that has a LVC

I use a seperate battery for my 3R and it pulls my 8# truggy like nothing, as long as it's not straight up, or hooked on a rock ledge.

As you've probably noticed I'm a newbie so I have no idea what you are talking about when you said that about the low voltage cut off. What is it, what does it do, and where do I get it?

I run mine at 9 volts off of a Castle BEC. Mucho better. The 3Racing winch is just too slow in a comp environment.

A Low Voltage Cutoff (lvc) is to stop a lipo being over discharged.

A Lipo cell needs to be kept above 3v otherwise they are stuffed. So for a 2s (2 cell lipo) min voltage would need to be kept above 6v.

You can get LVC off ebay or your LHS, or you can get a new esc with a inbuilt lvc.

Search ebay for LVC, low voltage cutoff, or novak smart stop.

I fried two winch boards and a winch for who knows what reason. I'm actually thinking it may have been condensation. Everything is in a tsc tool box and it did flop into the water for a second or two. Anyway, didn't have anymore extra boards so my buddy asked if I had a spare esc and he used it to make a new board and even though I didn't use my winch much before it failed, it really "seams" like it's almost twice as fast using the esc. I'm not into electrics thats why I call my buddy to do all my wiring I use 1320/2100 2s and 1320 3s lipos
