The XL-5 can handle up to 9.6 volt NiMH packs. There is also no low voltage cut off for the esc. |

I run several XL-5s on 3S lipos. Perfectly fine....just watch for power dips. I wouldn't even risk it that far. If I know I have 4000mah of juice on 3S...I would cut crawling/trail blasting on a 35T motor to about 20-25 minutes tops even though I know it can last a lot longer. I'm assuming you're using the XL-5 for waterproof reasons? Make sure everything else is up to par if that's the case. |

You have to remember that a 8 cell sub c battery is 9.6 nominal but could peak around 12 volts. They run a 12 turn 550 motor with 0 timing in the slash, so its all about how many amps you are putting through it. I would think you will be fine on a crawler motor. I would use a ext. bec though for the best performance. Randy | |

It will work with a 3S lipo. I would definately use an external BEC(takes some load off of the ESC and wakes up the servo), and don't get too crazy with the motor you choose and you should be fine. You are pushing the limits of the ESC though so don't let it be too big of a surprise if it doesn't make it. You know, you can pick up Castle Sidewinders uber-cheap right now(30-40 bones) and it will run circles around that XL-5. Last edited by Scattman; 01-23-2011 at 09:00 AM. |
