if you are not married to spektrum you would benefit from researching other 3ch radios. there are lots available for less (or the same) money, and I am not just talking about the flysky and other inexpensive chinese brands. the futaba 3pl is pretty solid, it just depends on the features you want. but if you have to have spektrum your best bet is to find a used one. check out rcgroups and rcuniverse for sale ads (of course also here if you have access). there seem to always be people selling them. first thing is to decide the features you HAVE to have, then look at the radios that have those features. putting brand name at the top when you are not already comitted to it (have other receivers, etc) is not the best way to go imo.

I went from traxxas ro spektrum, and now to flysky (in a traxxas) Its the best radio i think i've ever used. All the benifits of the stick into a pistol package. Oh if you don't know what i'm talking about heres a pic of my latest creation

I'm not married to spektrum, but I'm currently using a dx7se and I love it!! but there's all sorts of radios out there and second hand units, I'd probably inspect before buying!!!
