Default traxxas xl5---can u use 2s or 3s on them?

as stated above....can a traxxas xl5(waterproof) work with a 2s or 3s batt?

I have a rooster right now on a 3s with a voltage cut off....but I know the rooster can handle 2s no problems.....

can the xl5 do the same?

I've ran one for about a year on 3s and no issues at all. Never really gets warm. But the LVC is a issue.

you can run 2s, but ive heard people use 3s too.. however, you will need a Low voltage cut-off

I know that the new xl-5's have a 2s lvd and the older ones dont and they say that there not compatable with a novak lvc . I wonder if a guy got a newer one and wanted to run 3s if it would work with the novak lvc ?

Straight from Novak
http://www.teamnovak.com/tech_info/i...tes/index.html

The Novak Smart-Stop 2S Li-Po Cut-Off Module (Novak #5470) is not compatible with the blue-cased Traxxas XL-5 ESC (Traxxas #3018X) that is included with the Traxxas Slash 1/10 2WD Short Course Racing Truck (Traxxas #5805). This module may or may not be compatible with the original, gold-cased Traxxas XL-5 ESC (Traxxas #301. Novak is researching this issue to determine if an update can be made to the module or if a separate module can be offered for this application.

I wish I would have found this before I wasted my money a year ago.

if its not rated for 3s i,d say dont do it even with an external bec..worm gear trucks put alot more strain on the electronics..and i dont have huge faith in losi esc,s..you can only get away with the running an extra cell by adding a bec on a few esc,s and definatly will not work on all

I know the worms are killer on all the electronics. but i have mine in a honcho and it has alot less friction . Iam only running the losi esc because the stock honcho one is junk. i did do a very short test yesterday with a 3s lipo in it a big big upgrade if i can ever find out if i put the novak low voltage cut off on it that it will be ok .

There would be so many more stupid people in the world if we all had a million dollars because then there would be know need for all the extra elbow grease.

If you have $70 spare I'd try 3 cells on it. I doubt it would burn up your LNC if the esc. smokes.
