| Micro Sidewinder, B1r or Mamba Micro
Not often I ask a question, but I have no experiance with any of these ESC's so I need some help please. They would all be going in a twin ESC berg in the 4 to mid 4pound range running 16t 454 puller's, on 3s. First up from what I can tell the micro sidewinder is a decased mamba micro with no heatsink. At $55 I get get a $3 heatsink and glue it on and in my assumption have a $60 mamba micro instead of $75, very appealing. However if there is another major difference please let me know, I like to keep my magic smoke inside my ESCs Second option is the b1r, I really like my fxrs and the tiny size and price of the b1r's appeals to me, but i've also heard the drag and throttle control on the castle ESC's is excellent. Has anyone had both to compare? Also one thing I can't find info on is do the b1rs need capacitors like the FXRs? Or am I just better off spending the extra $15 over the other two and getting the mamba micros? Thanks for your help Kieren Last edited by Aussie Nerd; 01-28-2011 at 05:53 PM. |

Cross the B1-R off your list. It'll melt.

Can you confirm that the micro sidewinder and the mamba micro are essentially the same controller minus a case and heatsink. If they are I'll just buy some heatsinks. I think I'd prefer them without the case anyway Thanks Kieren |

Im not sure what confirmation i can give you, but from my discussions with castle..they are similar.. Micros do have heat sinks-- sidewwinders do not..i have a heat sink on my sidewinder mini..

| From other posts I've seen here on the boards, The Micro Pro seems to have a higher power handling ability. Not exactly sure on the specs, but its not much more than the sidewinder.

From what I can gather Micro sidewinder is 25a, b1r is 30 and mamba micro is 35. I've had a member PM me that he has spoken to castle tech support and they said the two castle ESC are electrically exactly the same, but there is some physical difference's, ie no heatsink, case, and the board is ever so slightly different. So I think I'll just go with the sidewinder's and get some heatsinks. It seems the mamba is rated higher simply because the FETs are able to dissipate heat better, thanks to the heatsink. However if you know otherwise please let me know! Cheers Kieren |

I've also seen posted that the mamba micro pro handles higher amperage, I'm running one and like the drag brake and throttle response.
