i have looked at like 500 post about servos... and everyone claims to have figured the servos out. im running a heavy bully.. around 6.5 to 7 lbs.. i blew up the stock rc4wd one in a month and had a new 645mg laying around so i thought i would run it till i could get another.. well that new 645 only lasted about 3 runs and stripped out on the inside. what is the best servo i can get for 100$ or less that will hold up.. running : heavy bullies t1e sidewinder rc4wd alum bec rc4wd dig 1300 3s lipo dx3e contoler alum 4c4wd wheels with 2.2 chisles also, i noticed some hi dollar servos say programable....what is that? i just want to plug it in a go. can i get bulletproof quality with $100? i need it to hold up |

I'm not up to speed on the hitec servos I've been running a 12$ tower pro mg995 on a 12 pound scaler and have yet to have any problems there 208oz. I've never used anything higher often thought of getting one the the price tags are killer..

the CS-170 is a good servo, its a rebadged Hitec 5955. It would definitely work for you.

Brass is way to soft IMO for a comp rig,and there is a very very thin brass gear in the 645.Making it unable to withstand any real blunt force. You will be better off IMO finding a used quality servo I have bought used jr 8711's and 9100t's for around 100 without any issue, and they are tough. The hitek 7950 and 7980 are also proven to be tough servo's I picked up a 7950 for around a 100 used, but it seems to stall a bit,but I'm not running it at 8v,only 6,it may not stall at 8v. | |

Your 645 can be re-built. They are not ALL metal geared - they have 1 plastic gear in there thats meant to give way, maybe thats all you need. Maybe you have some steering issues also. I use TowerPro HT MG996r - a bit better than the 995. They work great, I have a bunch of them. Used em on a Stampede, couple of crawlers, trail truck, Savage, etc. Never had any problems. The price is right too. |

I wasnt ready to drop ~$160 or so on a servo, both my crawlers have Hitec HS-7954SH in them they are 333oz in at 6.0v, and 402oz-in at 7.4v the only think people seem to be afraid of on these servos is the steel gears, but at ~$80 brand new, they are hard to beat IMO. |

I was looking at the 7954 too. I found a site that has them for 79.95 http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/HS7954SH.html I think I'm going to get one unless someone has a better suggestion in that price range. Seems hard to beat and would defiantly be a step up from the cheapies I'm used to.

I just picked up one of RPP Hobby's 300-oz Savox titanium-gear servos, put it on my 15-pound 6x6x4, and it works very well turning all 4 front wheels. That's a pretty severe load, and it held up just fine.

Get the cs-170. It's the only servo I've had in 1 1/2 years of running my LCC. I haven't had any problems with it. I will tell you to keep it at 6 volts. Mine does seam to run a little warmer than the other guys I crawl with. We all run it and I have seen one quit yet.
