Default hi tech servo problem

Alright fellow crawlers i have a brand new hitech 7954sh servo on my sportsman and this servo SUCKS i think a traxxas 2057 is stronger than this thing... Full lock left and the servo will freeze at the end and not return to center unless you drive forward or back a little and about 2 minutes into a 5 minute run the servo becomes very slow and weak. After a 5 minute (not heavily bound and not over used) run the servo is so freakin hot you can barely touch it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks and sorry for the long post...

Rig details:
AX10 based Frogger chassis sportsman
Rooster crawler ESC (waitin for the Mamba to come back from repair)
Castle BEC set at 7.2 volts wired directly to servo
G-force 800mah 3s lipo with a 40c burst
hitech 7954sh servo
Sedona tires (fronts weigh 15oz total each)

When servo horn is removed from servo, steering turns very freely from lock to lock with NO binding. End points are adjusted properly and not even maxed out.

Isn't that servo a 6.0v servo?

Maybe that's why it's hot if you're running 7.2v to it...?

Oh nevermind...it is rated for that much voltage...

Hey Tom,
That does not sound right. Do you have access to a Hitec Programmer? If so, I would reset it and then run a test on it. Possible that it is bad.

if you can wait, I have one that you can use.

Thanks Not sure what to do , ran it for 6 minutes today and didn't get hot , but it definitely lost power as the mins. ticked by and locked up once about the 3 min. marker . I think it's a done deal for the return to Hitec gig ...

Maybe the screw holding the servo horn on is slightly too long. This could make it bind up inside.

Try a shorter screw or shortening the one you have and see what happens

Just an idea

A long screw will just bottom out. That will not be the issue. Seems like there's some binding issues somewhere, but I guess it could be a bad servo.

I have had a 5955 and a 7955 do this right before the digital amplifiers went out. I sent both back to Hitec and they fix them under warranty.

I am having the same problem with my 795???TH. It seems to get "stuck" when turning left. If I wiggle my steering, it will come back to center after a few seconds. ???

Ok so i went so far as to have the servo put on the fancy shmancy (extra cost) programer and the servo is set SPOT ON. re-installed in said vehicle, after a 2minutes 38 seconds servo froze goin left. Quickly removed servo arm from servo and attempted to steer servo with controller = no response. wiggled steering wheel left & right 3-4 cycles then servo responded, but servo response was still slow and would sometimes lock in a left turn (not even at max throw). So I believe in all the tests performed , I just have a junk (NEW) servo.

Already boxed up and ready for return...

I have run 3 HS-7954SH servos...and have had no issue with them. It seems you just got a bad apple. Send it back, and dont give up on the Hi-Tec servos so fast.
