lipo battery disposal
 

Title says it all. I have a swelled 2s battery that I need to dispose of. Cut the connectors off and it started smoking. Right now it's in a pyrex pan in a snow bank cooling off. So what's next?

put it in a bucket of salt water for a few days.

and after the soak just throw it out? I did cut the connectors off, throwing in water could be interesting, but not like shooting it with a BB gun!!

It's almost identical to the instructions with my venom lipos.

By the sounds of things you did what Duuuuuuuude said and hacked off all the leads off at once, so you shorted the lipo out. Hence the smoking etc.
This is the way i was taught about disposal by a flying buddy of mine (remember fly boys were using lipos before Car guys even knew what they heck they were)

Hook up a low wattage 12v car light (i found an old brake light in the shed that i use) and leave it hooked up till the light has gone out.
Check you total voltage for the pack is under 1v. Once thats done, clip the leads, one by one and tape them up as you clip them.
Take to you local battery recycling centre.

The light is a low enough amp draw to (somewhat) safely discharge the battery low enough for safe disposal. But to be safe i would make sure you do this in an ammo can, flower pot, something fire proof.
