Motor/Gearing question?

I'm currently running an Integy 45t Pro Lathe in my SCX 10 with a gearing combo of 23/87. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the motor or what but sometimes when I try to climb things at a slower speed the truck just wants to sit still and kinda shake/hop in place. Not sure what could be causing this. I'm using a XL-5 wp ESC and a 4200mah battery. Any suggestions? Should I just toss the motor and go for a better one or back the pinion gear down a few teeth? Any info is appreciated.

Geared to high. Lower tooth pinion. I run 15/87 with 3s and it works great.

Just swapped it to a 15 and it does a little better at very low speed except it still stalls out on a slightly steep incline. I can try and post a video if that might help?

Sounds like your motor might need a rebuild if its still doing after to re-geared it.

The motor is only a month and a half old. Here's what I'm dealing with.

As you can see sometimes it's worse when turning. The motor will just stall like that and won't go anywhere until I'm at more that half throttle. I'm still new to motor building, guess I'll just get a different brand. Suggestions on a good motor around the same price range?

Could be batt or esc, but you say its worse when turning? Are you using a bec? If not the servo may be drawing enough that the motor is not getting full power.

No bec. It works just fine with my 65t. Here's my setup. DX3E, XL-5, 45t, 3Racing winch, Axial NVS light kit, 4200mah NiMH. Have thought that maybe a bec would fix things but like I said I don't notice this issue with my 65t that I've had for almost 2 years.

The 65T won't quite pull the same amps as the 45T, lower wind count...higher amp draw.
Did you regear when you swapped from the 65T to the 45T? You should have dropped a number of teeth on the pinion or upped the spur to maintain relative wheel speed.
Run it without a body and watch the lights on the RX & ESC, you may be "browning out" (voltage drop) that is causing the issue.
Also recheck gear mesh and how free things are, low throttle may be showing an issue.
