Default unbalanced 2s lipo

I've got a 2s 5800mah lipo that is showing 1.18 volts on 1 cell and 5.33 volts on the other. Is there anything I can do to save it?

Try to balance it. Otherwise, forget it. If you know someone who is pretty familiar with lipo's, they might be able to bring the low cell back up.

If your charger has a recovery mode, try that first.

1.18 is pretty damn low, you've lost 2/3 of the cells nominal voltage.

Duuuuuuuude's right, if you don't have the facility to attempt a recovery find someone who does...perhaps your local shop, and let them try.

Just curious, what brand Lipo is it?

+1.

Does your ESC have a LVC? If so, what is it set for (2S, 3S,.....)?

Are you certain that the shown voltage is correct and not an error on the part of the charger?

ESC wasn't set for lipo and grandson ran the slash with the lipo instead of the nimh and I wasn't home and he didn't know the difference (I've got two slash's 1 with lipo and one without)

Using a meter from my LHS that shows each cells voltage.

iMax B6 charger and does have a lipo recovery setting

Thanks for all the help but looks like I'm out a battery
Going to sit the grandson down tonight and explain the differences in the batteries.

Ok...good.

If it were me, I'd charge that pack for a few seconds on NiMH to bump up the voltage and then switch to Lipo...

You can charge only the low cell thru the tap on ni setting. Once its up on voltage balance charge it. Outside on concrete. Just in case.

Wouldn't this work?

I dunno....never used that. My charger simply wont recognize a pack that has dropped below the LVC (or whatever voltage it deems as recognizable)...

1-I'm glad my son didn't get into some of my stuff when he was younger.
2-I don't have any grandkids (at least, not proven in a court of law.....), but I do have a teenage son (also on this forum). Be nice to your grandson, he can learn a lesson while NOT getting PO'd at you. Remember, it may be tough for some to replace a battery pack (times are tight, RC batteries tend to be near the bottom of the list of "essentials....") but an impression to a younger person tends to be LIFELONG!!

Look at the bright side, at least he didn't CHARGE the LiPO at a NiMH setting and burn down your house!

Charlie good point
I had a nice talk with him last night and he now understands. He's 15 and was like what's the difference, he figured a battery was a battery. So he now is a smarter 15 (kinda like staying at a Holiday Inn Express)

1.18 volts is low for sure, but what about the 5.33 volts on the other cell, I would be more worried about that. With the low cell u just have to get rid of it, but with overcharged cell, doesn't it have to possibility of it igniting? From what I understand, 4.2 volts per cell was max. If u have anyother way of checking the lipo cells(charger read out or multimeter), I would do that and make sure your volt meter that u are using now is correct. One other thing, how did your battery get charged up so high in the first place? After the battery was run, 5.33 Volts is still higher than my charger would ever take it. Good luck and let us know what u end up doing.

If you aren't using a balancer, the charger will just throw voltage to the battery. It doesn't care if it is equally distributed across the cells or all packed into one. All its going to see is the voltage of the battery as a whole.

Charge a battery enough times without balancing and it will go way out of whack. The weaker cell will discharge further when used, and not hold a charge as well when its juiced back up.
