| Battery Charging
Just curious, being new to the Lipo world,I'm just making sure my charge times are correct..............I am running 3s 1300 packs, using a Thunder AC6 charger on balance charge & it takes about an hour to charge a pack at 1c,I was under the impression that lipo's would charge quicker than nimhi/nicad but was'nt sure ? Thanks in advance for any info !

Why are you charging it at 1S? Your settings should be for 3S and 1C (or 1300mAh)... Some lipos can be charged faster...but not all. It will usually specify on the pack. |

Maybe he means 1c. One hour is standard. Some of the lower resistance cells can be charged in 15 minutes, but it does wear them out faster. |

One hour is right for a 1c charge rate. I use batterys that can be charged 5c and they charge in 10-12 min.

Ok....yeah, I believe he recommends most of his packs be charged at 1C (1300mA)...

Indeed. The 25c cells could be safely charged at 2c, and the 35c cells seem to take 5c with little heat. I still don't recommend it though. Just wears em out. A better way for a quick fix is to charge them at 1c to 4.13v per cell and skip the last 20 minutes of CV and balance charge. Gets about 90% of the capacity (depending on cell) and doesn't beat then with a fast charge. The cell life can be extended quite a bit with undercharging.

I have been charging my lipo's at 4.5-5.0 amps for over a year now with no problems what so ever (cheapbatterypacks.com 850 3s, Thunder Power 850 45c 3s) I've had great success with these lipo's and have seen great performance and longevity from both at these charge rates

Quick, semi related question. I just charged my very first lipo on my brand new Thunder AC6. I used balance mode. The 2250mah batt (thunder power) was charged at 1c and took about 40mins. The current capacity display showed 1168mah. Does this sound correct? Does balance mode only show charge capacity for one of the cells? Mahalo! Brian |

Generally the battery will be at half charge when you get it, so that sounds right. Fancy chargers will account for balance current. I know the Hyperion does. Most chargers do not account for balance currents and will show a bit more than is actually put into the battery. Since cells in a pack are in series the capacity put into one cell is the same for all cells. |

Awesome. Thanks Jon. On reflection I maybe should have "zero" out the batts then charge from scratch.
