Default waterproofed a novak crawler esc.......poof

After reading articles on how to waterproof electronics I decided to try it on a brushed novak crawler. I was careful to ground myself so as to not get static electricity on the boards. I used two coats of liquid electrical tape and let them both dry thoroughly. I plugged the two boards of the esc back into each other and plugged the esc into the reciever and then plugged in a battery.......poof. It started smoking. Can anyone tell me how I screwed up?

I also used the same technique on a receiver and it works great.

Same exact thing happened to me... Have several receivers waterproofed this way with no issues... Tried the same thing on a castle BEC, and it let the smoke out... Go Figure...

You have to be careful with the liquid tape. Around the capacitors and other parts on the board you can have small pin holes that still let water in. I just wterproofed both my esc and receiver with no probs. But I put much more than two coats. I did a write up on it if interested.

Thing was, mine didn't see any water... it was about 5 minutes into a a pack, just running around in the house...

Girlfriend was pissed that the house smelled like burnt electronics for the next 2 days...

Since it's a liquid before it dries could the liquid mask trap it's own moisture?

Yes....and no.
The "liquid" in these sealers is NOT water. The liquid is usually NOT conductive, thus not an issue.
