| Just Another Novak 18.5 / 21.5 Question
For the information I currently run a Losi Night/Comp Crawler... basically running gear is out of a night crawler... all else is Comp... I am also running a Novak Rooster Crawler/55t Combo... I just purchased the brushless Novak Crawler combo with an 18.5 Crawler motor... I dont know squat really when it comes to running brushless in crawlers ... I also have a 21.5 Novak (non crawler) motor... my question is... if the 18.5 is too much speed for what I am looking for will the 21.5 work even though its not a crawler motor? Thanks guys in advance! |

The 18.5 motor with a 16-18 pinion will be fine. Is it the 2s or 3s system?

2s... normally I am not used to having much "pop" to get out of obstacles... will this do that considering I am already on 2s with the brushed system?

The brushless system will wake your rig up. If you switch to 3s it will really come to life. Just make sure to keep up with your worms if your using it as a basher.

| Cool thanks... yeah we dont do any actual comps... but I also dont abuse it too much... it goes out maybe 3-4 times a season... most of the season is offroad SC and 1/8 buggy... |

I am running a similar setup, LNC trans/driveshafts feeding LCC axles, Novak 2s Goat with the 18.5 crawler brushless. I run a 20 tooth pinion and am about to go up a tooth or two. My motor stays nice and cool, as does the ESC and battery. The diffs were actually running warmer than any of the electronics until I replaced 2 seized bearings and relubed the worms, now everything is running nice and cool. I also don't have any weight added to the wheels, I'm running static weight at the ends of the axle tubes for added stability. Check out Novak's website for tips on running the Goat system on worm-geared trucks like the LNC/LCC. Goat Reccomendations Last edited by Digger; 04-07-2011 at 03:11 PM. |

I also ran a 20 tooth on for awhile but my motor was getting a little warm. I do have weight in my wheels that might be the difference? Just threw the 16-18 tooth out there as a safe starting point.

Digger thanks for the link... I pulled out the brushed system last night and found I was actually running a 45T (must be getting old... forgot that) and a 23t pinion... I also have 11oz of weight in each front wheel with 4oz per each rear... in other words... its a heavy rig...

In that case I would start with the 16 to 18 tooth pinion and go from there.

OK it came in and I mounted and tested it... 18t pinion came with it... and WOW oh WOW... it did indeed wake up the LCC....
